thanks! my b15n sits at home and is my luxurious practice amp that i occasionally use for recording. i've been GASing over the pf50t for a while and i think i'll just go for it.

If you make your purchase, make sure that the hum mod is performed before the retailer ships it to you. Without the mod, the hum is even more pronounced in amps that run on a 50Hz line voltage.

I just hung up the phone with Ampeg tech services, as I called in regards to the PF 50T's manufacturer Yamaha versus Loud. I confirmed there are no more Loud units to be shipped, though there are still 15 for sale as new in retailers current stock, with 65 new ones coming in within a week.

But, if you're the owner of a Loud produced unit, feel secure. As the tech, I spoke with made the trip to the manufacturer's plant and spent several days reviewing the components and process and determined that the quality is up to Yamaha's standards and has recommended no changes to the process. He also stated that he feels this is one of Ampeg's best products.

I made the call to Ampeg today, as I received a 20% off coupon from Prymaxe. The coupon worked on this amp, so as soon as stock arrives, one will be on its way to me. If you sign up for Prymaxe emails, they'll probably send you a 20% off coupon too.

I had noise problems the last time I tracked it(could have been power), but I have done sessions now with only the Transformer DI out and nothing else in the chain and it worked out great. Live it is a non issue. Planning on getting the hum mod done soon regardless, but I don't think its a big deal. I'll say this... the transformer out is magic. It makes such a big difference live I would buy the head just for this alone. The fact that it sounds simply fantastic through any cabinet and with any bass I have used it with makes it worth more than I paid.

I have owned probably too many amp heads over the last few years, and for what I do the PF50T has them all beat. I love everything about it.

Sorry I am late to the conversation but I'm having an issue with a distorted signal coming out of the Transformer DI. I'm getting this sound both in the studio and on live recordings through the board. It sounds like a light fuzz is on my bass. Bass is way more distorted than what is coming out of the speaker (115 he). I'm DI'ing out of the transformer bal out. Maybe I should switch to the preamp out? Pre or post? The Gain eq isn't cranked, but I am running the bass through about 6 pedals in the live situation (tuner, envelope filter, compressor, dirt, ep boost, Ampeg scr di). I have my ep boost on in the live setting, which "fattens" the sound but might be adding too much to the transformer di, even at the lowest setting with no 3 db boost.

Anything I should try? Is this user error or should I be looking at having this amp looked at/repaired?

Could the doing the noise mod help? (What is the noise mod?) Or am I having a different issue here? Is anyone else experiencing this? Thanks in advance.

The input gain should be ok. I've had this issue at my home studio as well as on a very nice live board.
My guess is just that the amp doesn't like the EP boost on top of everything else. It's already naturally distorts pretty easily, as others have said above, so I might need to chill with the pedals (no ep boost). And maybe I need to mic the amp and work only with the preamp out DI to help balance the signal a little more.
