Ampeg PF210 Replacement Speakers

I would lay dollars down that s2010s would be an upgrade over the originals and not cost much more.

A speaker's advertised RMS wattage is the wattage that the voice coil melts down. A rule of thumb is that a speaker can only really take half of that number. To further complicate things, marketing departments get involved so with some cabs you're getting a lot of big numbers that in many cases will not accurately represent the capabilities of the cabs.

Regardless of what you drop in that box I'd wager it's not going to take more than 250w RMS or so before the speakers give up and "fart out" which means they reach their xmax-their mechanical limit where the cone can't travel any farther. A 4 ohm cab will probably just mean that you're that more likely to blow it by overpowering it. Your head will put out more than enough power to drive that 210 into oblivion if you're careless with it, 8 ohms or not.

So a buddy of mine has one of these sitting in his basement, so I went to try it out today. It sounds amazing, I mean it really did. I was pumping his ashdown 550 watt head into it, and it sounded like it was beginning to fart out.

Is that normal out of 210 cabs, or is this a poor designed cab.

I love the sound and the way these look. If I can prevent farting out with two of these cabs, I would like to buy a 2nd and have 2 10 inch speakers pumping. I'm just worried about dealing with farting out issue before I make an investment.

550 watts intoa 2x10 - yes it's normal for it to fart out.

That's probably not a poorly designed cabinet. More speaker area > wattage as far as getting more volume goes. Your head is limited by the properties of the speakers and design of the cabinet you're running it through.

If you're farting a 210, you're asking too much of it. 550 watts is way above the normal handling of most 210's. If you want more headroom, you have plenty of power. It sounds like you need more speakers.

Should pairing two 210's do be well? My 610 can be a bit much at times, so I was in the market for a 410, but I see two 210 cabs as a better option? A single 210 can do me well if I ever do any acoustic/low volume projects. Also, my fiance likes the look of this cab, so that's one less thing I'll be nagged to get rid of.

Is there much of a difference between a 410 and two 210's? I can't seem to find a 410 on the market I like.

So I went to a garage sale today and found a near new Ampeg pf210 cabinet with no speakers. The owner said he removed them for a cab he made from scratch and this box was in great shape, I picked it up for 50 bucks.

I'm looking for a set of speakers, although it might end up being really pricey, I really want a compact 4-ohm 210, plus this this is pretty cool looking.

I've tried to use speaker calculators before, but have no idea what I'm doing.

Could someone reccomend two good speakers to use in this cab?

Yeah i got the same cab ftom a friend and the speakers were missing too. I really want to get it running so i can use that for practices instead of my gk cab
