Underpowering is nonsense. If it wasn't, then all amps would on have on/off and no volume knob. Get an amp that sounds good, get a cab that sounds good, and don't worry about numbers, especially power handling numbers. The vast majority of power handling numbers on cabs are done by rating what it takes to melt the voice coil, while real world performance will be a good bit lower. Then use common sense and your ears to keep them from blowing.

there is no such thing as "underpowering" a speaker. a speaker's power rating can be fudged in many ways, and in many ways a power rating is kind of irrelevant. but, as bassists, the the far more relevant spec for us is the X-Mass (voice coil overhang) spec, and any speaker with an xmass rating above say 3.5 or 4mm will be plenty. the higher ratings equal slightly less overall efficiency, so keep that in mind. i have a kappa pro 15 in my orphaned bt15 cab and it's nice. however there's only so much power you can put Into the cab before it doth protest with the rattles. so, just be sensible with your expectations and you'll be fine

"Melt the voice coil " Man I really love that phrase!! Been there done that with a few back in the day!

Honestly your ear is the best way to judge how a cab / speaker sounds. If it sounds bad - don't go there. Unless you want to see a voice coil melt! :-)

I don't know... bragging rights? :)

Well, mine is ordered, and should be here around Thursday. It would be here sooner but this Wednesday Independence Day here in the US. Kind of a big deal. :)

The good news is it will come in time for me to bring it to a rehearsal before a gig, so I can shake it down a bit. I sure hope I don't get caught up in that whole "4ohm load" thing with my PF500 again! :hmm:

I just got my PF115LF delivered.

I am still at work. :hmm:
In about 5 hours until I can unbox it and play it.

:)

I'm looking forward to this evening.

(I also ordered The Real Book bass 6th edition and some other instruction books.)

thanks, looks simple indeed. i checked the thread out and Love the side jack mod, which to me is one of the coolest things about b15 ownership. i modded my bt15 cab to take a neutrik combo plug that accepts either a 1/4" or neutrik connector. it just looks so badass

My PF115 covers came in today from the local dealer. They were a bit pricey, but very well made. They did a nice job with the embroidery, and they are nicely padded. Even with the chrome handles I installed, they still fit quite nicely. Eventually I'll make openings for them.

OT I know, but as long as you mentioned the Real Book, if you have an iOS device (iPad, iPhone) or an Android device (tablet), or now even a Kindle, there is a software version of Real Book (www.irealb.com) that provides every chart that the paper one does, plus it will play the changes to the charts in any key you want. One of the best $4.99's I ever spent. Check it out. very cool.

let us know how that 115LF works for you.

apprécier!

Jealous! I'm continuing to track mine, and all I see us that "the shipping label was created".

Well, I called both GC and UPS, and it got straightened out. I received my PF115LF today, and after noodling for about 10 minutes, I can say it appears it's going to do what I had hoped it would do, and that is to add some depth to the overall sound. It's going to get plenty loud, but I haven't been able to really crank it yet as people are home and I don't want to break any dishes; at least not yet. Here's a picture of the rig. The LF is a tiny bit wider than the HE, but considerably deeper. That's OK, it looks good from the front! :)

Cool Jeff. :) Enjoy!

I haven't been able to play through it properly. Yesterday worked late and there were kids asleep... today the same. Tomorrow I work and the girlfriend wants to go out in the evening. Sunday morning working... so my weekend starts sundag afternoon. :bassist:
Then I'm going to test what this thing is capable of.
It sounded very good at low volume on its own this cab. (Remember I use it as standalone.)

GAS for a PF350 now. :hmm:

So Ampeg is making a cover now? I saw a Portaflex cover on Invalid Link Removed, but I couldn't find any prices or anything.

This is my "custom cover", I don't think it will last too long though.

Custom Amp Covers makes a real nice cover for the PF115HE. I have bought several covers from her for different amps. I bought mine through her eBay store. I am not affiliated in any way; just a satisfied customer and another option.

You'd be surprised, bro. A roll of cheap duct tape to fix tears and those "covers" will last quite a while. A little hard to fold up and hide in a small place, but a lot cheaper.
