Ampeg PF350/500 Part V

I have both. I think they sound fine together. I have the 210 on top. There is a subtle difference between the two.

What I like about having the 2 different cabs is the flexibility of choosing between the two cabs when I only need one. If I need both I'm good to go as well. I find myself using the 115 most of the time lately.

My recommendation is if you are really happy with the tone you are getting and just need more of it then go with the matching cabs. You know what you are going to get

If you are looking for a little more variety (again subtle but its there) go for the other. Buy from a place with a good return policy so if it its not your thing you can exchange it.

+1
My thoughts exactly. I have both and I think they sound AWESOME together! Totally modular rig. For smaller gigs, you have the option of whichever cab you might want to take that night, that's kind of cool I think.
I keep my 210 on top as well. Running both cabs (4 ohms) provides plenty of volume too. Plus they just look KILLER stacked!
:hyper:

Hey people, I have a portaflex 500 and soon to be two Ashdown ABM 410's. What is your take on the things ability to power both of them? It sounds pretty good with just one 410 (8 ohms) and it can get pretty wonderfully loud and tonelicious.

I'm always for doubling 410's. Bigger is always better for bass IMHO. A PF500 will power two 410's just fine. Might not always need it, but it always sounds way better than just one.

Hey All,

For those interested, I think I'm going to go ahead and pull the trigger on a PF115LF to go along with my PF115HE and PF500. Unless someone can convince me otherwise! :)

won't try to convince you otherwise.
I will ask that once you have the HE/LF rig in your hands, please come back and give us a mini review if you will.

I have decided to go with 2 115HE's with my PF500, but I know there are other TBers who are interested in how the HE/LF combination works out.

so, let us know how it sounds.

I was going to sell my gk410 and start from scratch with the Ampeg cabs but at this point it is just easier for me to get a gk 115 as I am getting it used and it complements my 410 (somewhat). I am on a budget right now but I would be very curious as to how your HE/LF rig sounds so I am also encouraging you to give us some kinda review. Thanks.

Aye. I want to get a 210 and 115 rig, already have the 210he and just need to decide whether I should get the 115lf or he.

Also, does anyone use a Tech21 Sansamp DI with their pf500? I don't really know much about it, wondering if its something I should consider getting.

Hi,

I ordered the 115LF today and should have it next week.

But... I don't have a PF head or a HE cab.
I plan to use it as a single cab with a Blackstar 20W head and/or GK1001RB-II (or withever amp my GAS will point me to over the next week, browsing local classifieds like crazy).

So I don't know it if my opinion on the cab will be useful to PF350/500 users but I'll try to let know how it performs.

Ooo, it's going to be a race! :) I will be ordering mine in the next hour or so - we'll see who gets who's first!

Seriously, any and all opinions count, so I'd like to hear how the LF sounds with a non-Ampeg head.

Cool. What's in it for the winner?

I hope you'll enjoy it... as I hope I will enjoy mine.

On paper this seems like a great cab. If the cab is a winner I might consider a second 115LF. I think the price is very great. (444 € street price around here.)

I might be the odd one out in this thread, but I like Marshall guitar heads to play through. I'm currently GASsing for something JTM-like.

I'm not gigging at the moment, but in that case I might consider the PF500 or Genz Benz Streamliner.

I don't know... bragging rights? :)

Well, mine is ordered, and should be here around Thursday. It would be here sooner but this Wednesday Independence Day here in the US. Kind of a big deal. :)

The good news is it will come in time for me to bring it to a rehearsal before a gig, so I can shake it down a bit. I sure hope I don't get caught up in that whole "4ohm load" thing with my PF500 again! :hmm:

yes, as I am interested in running a second PF cab, and occasionally running my PF500 at 4ohms, I am also interested in this question.

There were a few posts and a poll not so long ago that addressed some TBers experience with the PF350/500 series amps cutting out under load. I did not end up being able to make any determination if this was due to specific bad units (which will happen in any large manufacturing process), some sort of potential design flaw, or user error. I did try to ask the question about whether the cutting-out issue was more prevalent when the PF amps ran pushed at 4ohms, vs 8ohms, but never got a clear sense of it.

There do seem to be a few TBers who are running 2 cab/4ohm loads, I wonder if they can report on the performance of their PF350/500's ?

thanks

[DEL]Whats the difference between the svt and the hlf other than the tweeter?[/DEL]

Edit: I see the PF-115 is an LF and not an HLF so no horn.

I like what my 210he sounded like with the svt115. That's why I decided on the PF115he to go with it. I'm sure that the PF115LF will sound sweet as well.

I know that this thread is devoted to the Ampeg PF350/500 and I hate bringing in another brand but this is an update to my earlier post regarding my acquisition of a GK 115MBX to go atop my GHK 410MBX. I had asked several questions pertaining to my 500 and how it would push my GK stack. Well, I just got the 115 today and I practiced for about an hour (my neighbor is a teacher and she gets home early from summer school.
Anyway, I tried the amp with the 115 alone and then paired with the 410. I heard no discernable "strain" coming from the 115 (I also only had the volume at 11:00 position so that may explain things). I rather like the extra surface area of the 115 as it gives me a deeper sound so overall things are kind of great. If anything changes or I have any problems, I will be sure to ask you guys (of course I am referring to the amp head and not the cab).
P.S. - Check out the rig!

I run two PF115HE cabs and a PF500. Had no problem at all with cutting out.
