Yes, it is crazy. I swear I just turned the damn thing on and it popped like a firecracker and shot a big blue spark out.
So what are people who have ditched the PF500 switching to?

To be fair, yours blew up. Most others just have issues with them cutting out, then working again. Yours died. It happens, even to Markbass, etc.
I've never run mine through a cab, just through headphones. For the like 3rd or 4th day of using it it had an electrical burning type smell coming from it, then it stopped. I think I should take the thing to the dealer and plug into a cab and make sure it works!
Well, off to GC to give the PF500 another shot. Now the Dilemma is do I get a second 115 cab or get a 210? YEs, we all know about the general concensus here to not mix drivers, but I think it would make for a more versatile little rig, being able to use either cab on it's own with slightly different sounds from each vcab or having a little mini stack!
I played PF 350 thru 210 + 115. Don't care what everybody says, they sound great together. And I don't care how much power each cab gets or how louder/quiter 115 will be. It's my "to go" rig, currently I only have PF 115 and I miss sweet mids from PF210.
I absolutely love using the two in combination. I've heard it called "engineering with your eyes" both here and elsewhere - and by guys that know a lot more than I do, I might add; but seriously, to my ears, using the PF210HE on top of a PF115HE brings a fullness to my tone that I just don't hear/feel when using just one or the other. Each of the components sound perfectly fine individually; the mids seem a little more defined with the 210 and the 115 seems to get a little lower - used together is just a whole other level of rich, creamy Ampeg sweetness that sounds just about perfect for what I'm looking for and at 4ohms there's plenty of volume on tap. YMMV, IMO and all that jazz.
It powers up just fine, but no sound. Seems to me like a cap blew up or a fuse blew. Why dont they just have an accessible fuse that the owner can check? You'd think they'd incorporate something like that into the design.
Nice to hear of someone using both the 115 and 210 together. In all hoenstly that's what I am going to do as well. I really think it will make for a nice little rig.
It really is, and it's nice having the option to take one or the other (or both) depending on the size of the venue or type of music, etc. The footprint is pretty small for a bass rig, doesn't take up much room on the stage and the cabs are fairly light to carry - I schlepped mine up and down three flights of stairs twice a week for a year before joining this new band. Now I leave the 115 at the rehearsal space and the 210 in the living room for home practice and just take the head with me back and forth. My back (herniated disc) loves me for it !

All I'm saying is most of the failure that I have read about here haven't involved a release of the "magic smoke".
