Ampeg PF350/500 Part VI

I got a big problem with my PF-350

Have had it for a while and it's seriously the greatest thing for me, nice and small and easily portable.

Problem comes when i turned it on today. Now i play both active and passive basses so the night before i had the -15db switched on. Today i went to switch it off and the button wouldn't go!

Pressed it and pressed it and it had no effect on it.

Any of you had this problem? Could use some help!!!

Unsure as to my opinion of my new 350. On the 210 it seems to lack volume before faulting out. With 210 & 15 volume is good but it seemed noisy.

I plugged it into my 12" on my combo 80 watt Eden living room amp ( which i use successfully for rehearsals) and the Eden head drives it substantially louder. I like the thick sound, looks and construction of the 350, but I don't know how happy I am.

I wanted it for rehearsals with the 210 and I don't think 250 watts is a realistic rating since it craps out at lower spl that the 80. Gain around noon -1, EQ flat maybe a little bass cut, vol about 3. Totally can't handle more gain and the peak light isn't even flickering at all.

Don't try to run this amp flat, it wants it's knobs turned. I run (clock face) gain @ 2:30 or 3, bass @ 3 or 4, mid @ 12 or 1, treble @ 8:30 or 9, master wherever needed. I've had it as high as 12 or 1 with 1 210av. No farting out whatsoever, and plenty loud for most of my situations with no FOH. I use 2 210's cause it sounds soooo good.

Yeah I wiggled the knobs in all kinds of combinations too. Still my 80 watt combo kicks its butt in spl driving the same speaker.

But I really like the PF tone. I need it to exceed the 80 watt combo is all. It's cutting out on the fault protection. Do you think it's faulty?

Agree with this 100%. I have a PF115 cab and an SVT210av cab. This head (PF500) sounds really good with either of those cabs by themselves! But as you mentioned, the magic doesn't happen until you mess with the knobs for sure, and some of those knobs like to be cranked pretty far to the right. Initially I could have swore that the it was a defect, because I really had not heard much difference in tone until the knobs get turned a lot, but it seems that it's the nature of these amps and what they like.

Just picked up a PF500 and PF115HE.... love em so far! Will be getting a second 115 soon! I do have a question, forgive me if it has been asked/answered already. When I turn my head on or off, my fault light stays lit for approx 2-3 seconds. I didn't notice this when I first setup the amp, is this normal behavior? Thanks in advance!

My new one does the same thing and i think it's normal. I dont remember if my first one did that because it blew up on it's second day. So far so good with #2!

Well I am very happy with Loud. I only emailed them Sunday and at 930 pacific they gave first response and two more responses so far and it's just noon pacific now!

Sure, I wish this didn't play out as a beta test on a product but I can guarantee Loud didn't plan this and I feel for them and the problems they're having. Very impressed with CS from them. They are trying their best and in the long run I think they'll get it right.

Mine did the same exact thing on my 500 I never had any issues with the amp in the year that I owned it. I always thought maybe it was the amp running to self test or something to that effect.

Thats cool that they at least seem to be on top of it and are accommodating customers when they are having an issue. I will admit I am a bit hesitant to drop the money on a second cab for my PF set up and instead am just going to keep the PF500 & PF115 as a practice amp for home instead and just put together something else ore reliable for playing out. But I really do like the way the PF500 & PF115 sounds.

My money is on this being one of two things, either an assembly problem, or a bad batch of say, capacitors or chips or etc. delivered to the manufacturer. Seeing as this is happening to both models this just seems to me like components. I really doubt it's a design fault. So Loud will take it up with the contracted assembler and deal with the issue by doing like they did with me. I advocate immediate contact directly with Loud for immediate attention. Don't bother with the retailer.
