Ampeg Pf800 vs the venture v7 ???!!!

So! I'm a working bassist. I've tried a ton of gear throughout the years. 20 years ago it was swr and ampeg svt amps which i remember were . The last 8 years or so I've used mesa subway gear, tc, markbass, trace elliot and orange rigs. The tones were good but just not for me. After spending that kind of money I just chose to keep gigging those rigs and stay away from the trusted ampeg bc of the reports of catastrophic failures. But recently I sold it ALL. And despite the new venture series being released, I opted for the oh so unreliable ampeg pf series head. The pf800... and bought a couple of the portaflex cabs as well and did a couple gigs so far. I have to say my tone live is everything I've been wanting out of a bass amp. It sounds so much cleaner. Great bass tone! At this point I'm realizing I could've saved a lot of money and just stuck with ampeg. So aside from failures with the pf series bc (apparently they fixed these issues), does anyone have any experience with the new venture heads that also played or still own the pf series heads that can give a verbal comparison tonewise? Only reason i didnt buy the venture is bc i actually prefer wood cabs and ceramic speakers over the new composite and recycled cab materials and neo speakers...Thanks!

I've owned and played my pf800 since purchased new in 2017 on hundreds of gigs without ever any issues. I know the 500 and a smaller # of 800's had the shut down issue.

Can't do the direct comparison you requested but I also have the SGT-DI. I find while I get great tones from the pf800 the SGT-DI is a better preamp due to the sweepable mids, cab sims [not used live but fun to experiment], & SGT circuit. I've recently added a Straight Ahead Power Amp to the SGT-DI and I've only used it on 2 gigs I really like the additional features of the SGT-DI.

Recently a TB member asked Ampeg if the new Venture amps sounded the same as the SGT-DI. The response from Ampeg was that it should sound similar but anytime you add/ subtract any electronics to a system, like incorporating the SGT-DI & a power amp into one unit, it will have affects on the sound.

Hope this helps.
