Ampeg SCR-DI vs Tech 21 Sansamp BDDI

Well guys, I sold my trusty VT Bass V2 few days ago. (sad) And after this debate I decided to stick with Tech 21 products. Even though dUg pedal looks nice, it's not pedal board friendly for me, because I have tuner and compression pedal, I might get it another day. But now I'm debating between BDDI V2 and Bass Driver Programmable. How useful is the Mid knob? I just like the idea of having 3 different presets.

It's a toss-up IME. I had a Programmable and replaced it with a plain-jane BDDI, neither of which have a dedicated mid control. The control layout is interactive and I was able to get a decent handle on the mids by manipulating the level & blend in conjunction with the treble & bass.

You really need to try out the BDDI V2. IME it's more than just a BDDI with mid control. I own both the old and new version and they are different enough that I don't see it as being redundant. The mid control is very effective, the presence control has a more useful taper and less hiss, the base/neutral setting has less mid scoop right off the bat (confirmed by Tech 21), and the low end is much fuller.

I like both the old and new pedals and was always able to get a good sound with the original using the blend/bass/treble/blend controls as a system. The V2 allows me to make individual adjustments and do fine tuning, especially in the mids, that I could not do as easily on the original BDDI. If you like the clank effect, I think the original does that a little better. The V2 feels smoother, richer/fuller down low, and more refined.

There are some good threads with comparisons if you do a search. If you plan to go FOH only, either will work fine albeit they're voiced a touch differently. If you plan to go into an amp/cab, the V2 allows much better matching so you don't get a heavily mid-scooped amp/cab simulation layered on what may be a mid-scooped amp and cab. Bottom line is that I like both, but the V2 is not just simply an original version with a (very useful) mid control IME.

Thanks for your input, guys. Well it helps, but anyway, I would really like to try both and I think that I will do so - I will order both pedals and will see what will work the best for me, because if you say that both sound great than I don't know if I really need this Mid knob, on the other hand I don't know if I need a different presets.

Ok, so here is a little update from me, I decided to delay the purchase of those pedals, because unfortunately here (I'm from Latvia) we don't have a Tech 21 products in our stores, but one, I'll get to that later. So usually what I do I'm ordering new stuff together with my band mates, when we need something before upcoming gigs, from Thomann(biggest music store in EU). So I want to save up for some more stuff for music, not only those two pedals, so I don't need to order something later on my own (shipping cost more that new bass strings). BUT I got to one local store and my gosh they had some Tech 21 products that been there for probably around 10 years! I purchased Tech 21 TRI-A.C. for 170 euros, just to give an idea here in Europe BDDI V2 and Programmable Bass Driver cost 260-270 euros. I know that this is guitar pedal, but it works great on bass, I already set up 3 different presets, clean Tweed(SVT kinda sound), another clean sound using RECTO style and one really distorted MARSHALL. This thing has some very nice lows even on Marshall settings being distorted. I been playing VT Bass V2 for almost 5 year and I immediately like this TRI-A.C. better. Here is my pedalboard.

Nope, this is a great all-purpose pedal....the manual (attached) even shows a handful of bass patches. Good snag at a great price!

Just wanted to make a little update. I've played this pedal several times now with my band on rehearsals and maaaaaan, it sound awesome! I don't like CALI settings, sound actually ok, just not my taste, i would say that it sounds somewhat close to my VT Bass V2 actually. BRIT setting is really nice for hard overdrive or light distortion call it as you like, but yeah surprisingly this thing handles low frequencies really well on that BRIT setting. And now to my favorite part - the TWEED mode, it sounds huge and beefy, but at the same time bass is so tight, really reminds me that huge Ampeg 8x10 stack that I played once. It is exactly what I wanted to hear from my VT Bass pedal for all those years. I'm really blows away by this pedal it's shame that it is discontinued. I was sceptical about using this thing on bass, but I wanted to buy it, because it was literally new and was just laying around in the local stores, so I thought my bro will use it on guitar, but i'm so surprised and happy about this pedal, that I don't even want to try BDDI, because why? I really found my sound. I will not use it for overdrive, but I have two presets, both clean with a little bit of a push, just the second one is slightly quieter and has less treble and the third preset is just random for experimenting.

If you can, buy both. Keep the one you like more. Sell the other.

Guys for those who have SCR-DI, why does it say that power adapter should be 500mA(it's written on the chassis of SCR-DI itsefl near power input)? and in manual it says 100mA. I have a power supply box True Tone ISO and it's 9-12V outputs only provide 200mA. Power consumption cannot be so big on analog device, that's unreal.

BTW the Truetone is unlike most isolated power supplies in that you can pretty much ignore the individual mA labels as long as you don't exceed the limit for the entire brick. They say this themselves on their site and I've had it confirmed from them via email.
