Jimmy, I was talking more about the amp, sounds like you're talking about the cabinet. How does one tell what the cabinet is made out of?

easiest way is to pull a speaker and look inside.

I've been wanting to figure out the date of my straight-back 810 for a while, but never really got around to it. I bought it off of a guy in Houston a while back (pre-craigslist era) for a couple hundred. A huge steal for a high school kid. Now it's 8 or 9 years later and I've finally decided to date it.

Here's what I have:
The back of the cab has a single quarter inch input, and the plate doesn't seem to have any distinguishable information. Here is a picture of the back plate:

yes, it is beat up quite a bit.


I pulled one of the speakers (annoying little clutch head screws!) and found this info:

Can anyone offer help in dating this cab?

just noticed...the speakers should say 32 ohms, not 21. might have lost the 3

Hey I am buying a SVT-810E with the serial dwcd850186, the guy said it was bought new in 2006. My 5th character is an 8 though, what is up with that?

I've been curious about the production date of my SVT-CL so last night after rehearsal I wrote down the serial number to look it up when I got home: BJNDS00136

I'm told it is from a "new" (2010) b15r, but can't find any reference to b15r's made the past few years. Using the previously referenced codes, it looks like a 1998.

1997. There were no new B-15's produced in 2010 except for a couple Heritage B-15 prototypes.

My SVT Classic says it was made in the USA by SLM.... and the guy I bought it from said it was one of the last couple years they were made in the US, but he didn't know the exact year. It looks brand new, and sounds great, but the serial number is like the guy above... the 4th digit is a D... and the 5th is an EIGHT for sure.... Not a B or an S... it's an 8. Then there is a bunch of zeros and a very low number, (10 digits total). Any idea what year?

That D is a country code and stands for "domestic." Got a pic of the label? I don't recall ever seeing an SLM label where the 5th digit wasn't a letter. Honestly, I think you are, indeed, seeing an S where you think you see an 8. And that would make it 2006.

What years were the chipboard 810E's made? I've got a July 2002 cabinet here that I got for cheap and will keep it if it is one of the good ones, but will sell it if it isn't.

EDIT: Nevermind, I couldn't stand it and pulled a speaker to see. Its chipboard, and the speakers are the 10324A's. I also have a custom 8x10 style cabinet that I made in the 90's that has four 10's and one 15 in it. The 10's are the 10324's, but they were a Eminence that only New Sensor sold. They say 10SVT instead of the 86-xxx-xx number the Ampeg ones have. The 15 is a 150 watt Eminence that isn't made anymore. The cab sounds good, but I'm thinking I want to sell it and get a 8x10, or make one. I think with 8 10's in there, it is louder, and certainly can take more power too. I have to recover the new cab, so when I do that, I will get some frequency tests at my friend's and compare the cabs. I may end up selling both cabs if anyone is interested?

S/N- BRRD080090 Cant figure out because of the 0 for the 5th digit.
