Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Club

Hi guys,

I'm not a member of the club, but after years of amp fumbling, I'm wanting to make my way back to ampeg and the svt-7 pro has been catching my eyes/ears...That is, until I started reading forums about it here on TB. Does anyone know the actual failure rate of this amp? Would I be safer bypassing it and going for a 3-pro? My Ampeg experience is limited to a pf-500 and svt-3 pro. Both were excellent workhorses so a part of me wants to believe that the svt-7 pro will do the same for me...It's just a bummer to read all these failure stories, even into rev C....

Tell me it will be okay :crying:

I'll tell you this much...if you think it will keep you awake at night, just compromise and get a PF800. PF800 sounds like the PF500 except it's got some extra headroom that seems to add a little oomph to the feel of it, and it's got very few reported failures on here. Or get a 3 Pro, which is a 20-year-old design by this point and quite stable. Used to have a 3 Pro...wouldn't mind another one someday.

I honestly preferred my pf500 to my svt-3 pro. Read up on how to get the most out of it and everything, but still generally wielded the pf500 into battle. Local recording studio liked it more as well. Perhaps the pf800 is my answer then...Still, gonna sleep on it a couple more days. I suppose there is nothing wrong with giving the 7-pro a shot to see if I feel like I can trust it. If not I can exchange it for the pf-800 and still have that sound in my head :bassist:

Just ordered a 7-pro. Based on sound clips and youtube reviews with some nice headphones, it just sounds too good.
Fingers crossed that I get a reliable one, I can't believe that a few revisions later the failure rate is terribly high and I'm getting a really nice deal. Between that, a 45 day return policy and a warranty, it seemed like I had to at least give it a shot.

Just picked up a SVT7PRO to replace my Markbass LMII as my main gigging amp and I'm loving the tone.

I'm running it into two Epifani PS112's and the tone is good and loud. I can push these cabs and they never fart out even though they are only 300 watts each!

But I'm gassing for a 410. I've been spoiled with these 37lb Epifanis for so long I don't want anything too heavy.

I considered the Pro Neo 410 but they are expensive. Is anyone gigging the Portaflex PF410HLF cabs with this head? Looks like a nice inexpensive 410.

I'm playing a Schecter Stiletto Studio 5 in my band and we cover a lot of 90's hard rock (AIC, Staind, RATM...). We have PA support most times but I eventually will probably buy two of the same cab for big shows when we don't have PA support.

After a couple suuuuper loud band practices, my 7-pro is the best decision I've made in a while. I'm confident it will stand the test of time.
Sound wise, compared to my friend's CL, it is super similar, but with a modern feel to it that I love (if you're into modern amps). Hybrid amps are my favorite in regards to the "solid-state, hybrid, or all tube" debate, and this one is the best one I've owned yet. Very pleased that I picked it over the pf-800, though I may still get one of those as well just because my pf-500 was killer.

Now, a svt-810 or the pro neo 410...Decisions.....

Nope. Add a second PN410 for best results. The major problem with 410/115 rigs is the volume and tone imbalances, because the settings that work with one cab don't always translate to the other. I know a lot of bass players like to do this, but every time I've tried a similar rig I've never liked it as much as matching cabs. So add another of the same cab. It's got plenty of low end for a B string already.

I can't believe Ampeg didn't throw in the towel on this version and go for an 7PRO V2. I'm not saying the new revs aren't reliable but purely from a marketing point of view a new version would wipe the slate clean, I'd be willing to give that another go. Good luck with it, they are a nice sounding head.
