Ampeg SVT-II appreciation thread

Ok, so as you can see from the pic one of the tubes isn't even glowing. Should I leave it in or remove it?

Well the safest answer would be to let a qualified amp tech diagnose any problems.

You could try swapping that tube for another and see if the issue follows the tube or not, but if that tube has a serious problem like maybe its shorted you might end up further damaging other components in your amp.

Besides that even if the only problem is that 1 tube just died and you only wanted to replace 1, you'd still want a good amp tech to double check and see if he could match the replacement along with the remaining 5, into 2 groups of 3 suitable for use together. And then you'd also want him to re-set your Bias anyway.

So I say its best to not play it until an honest amp tech that's very familiar with SVT-II's checks it out.

This is a really long thread, but way back towards the beginning, there were a number of people who had schematics for the SVT-2 (non pro).

Now those people seem to be mostly gone, and the links are dead.

Does anybody still have the schematics? Please PM me if you do,

Thanks!

I know this is an SVT-II thread, but I have a IIpro that I am obsessed with, and I figured this is as good of a place as anywhere else to proclaim my happiness.

Totally in love with the sound I get from my Lakland P5 and Warwick Corvette 5. There's this fullness that I've never experienced prior to playing this amp. It's the forbidden fruit; once you taste of it, you can never go back!

Just scored one of these on CL. Needs a little TLC, nothing too major I hope. One thing I did notice, is that the bar that is located above the power tubes is not there. I assume this is not a big deal, but does anyone know if there are places to buy these? Also, the serial # appears to be a B or D, it's sort of smudged. The head doesn't have the rear grille, but the ampeg logo is solid, with svt-II outlined. I'm planning on having it looked over by a tech before the weekend, can't wait to fire it up!

just picked one of these up.

looks like it has ruby 6550's in it
i didn't play through my cabinet but the amp sounds really really clean
want some good tube breakup, so gonna have a tech check it out.

can anyone comment on the different power tubes?
are the repro tung-sol or any of the other tubes like the sovtek 6550w better than the others?

i also have some vintage preamp tubes that i could throw in there, worth it?

i also read about some updates that should be done to the amps but i never saw the links, can anyone point me to those links so i can have my tech check that out too?

thanks.
