Ampeg SVT-II appreciation thread

Question for those with the
Factory case;
I need the new rubber feet
That fits the head into an ampeg
Cabinet. Went to the flip top
Site and there's more than
1 choice for feet.
Anyone bought them recently?
Thanks

I’m about to get a first generation non pro, an ’89. It’s been used as a backline amp on a big outdoor stage in Stockholm for many years, and the current owner bought it from there a couple of years ago. It has been looked after and serviced and seem to be working just fine.

There’s just one thing...

It has no cooling fan and never seem to have had one. None of the owners have removed it and there are no marks inside suggesting there’s ever been one there.

Anyone heard of one of theese beasts surviving 30 years without a fan? I thought it would have melted...

well the cutout is there and IMO it’s possible that it was carefully removed early in the amps life. Perhaps the area was even painted to cover screw head scratches. Cant imagine it left the factory w/o a fan. I would guess that after the fan was removed (maybe someone didn't like the noise at low volume) it was run hot and perhaps tubes changed more frequently to compensate. But these are extremely tough amps, made to survive heavy use. And 2 and 4 ohm capability is a bonus! I just wish they werent made with depleted uranium! It makes it a challenge for an old guy to haul this tasty machine to gigs!

I didn't try this yet but I did plug in return from another preamp which worked so at least power section is fine. You're saying the send jack itself could be causing all this?

Can someone explain to me preamp tube positions from this picture? I'm guessing v1 is the bottom left one.

Loading out of the practice space I snapped off one of the main handles. Came off at the screw. Looks like I can make the repair using a longer set of screws but it is a pain since the faceplate has to come off the do it right. Problem is we are getting on the road tomorrow morning to travel a few hours to the show.
Should I:
Burn midnight oil and make the repair?
Take the TC Electronic BH-250 instead?
Take the head anyway and just deal with the awkwardness of moving and displaying it all jacked up?
I’ll make the repair but just when is the question

If you think you'll have a hard to moving it without the handle, I'd either take the backup or fix it tonight. They are so darn heavy, I'd worry about dropping it if you think it'll be hard to move without the handle.

Solid reasoning. But after a long day at work and necessary family time before I’m gone for the weekend (and the two after that) I’m gonna scrap doing the repair tonight. And since I roll the head around on a cart I will just deal with it being wonky. Venue is big and I want the powah of tubes instead of cranking a low power SS.

DO IT!!!

I always used an aftermarket rack with good side handles

Mine is an ‘89 and from what I’ve researched, they didn’t come with fans. I could be wrong but I’ve had no issues with mine as far as cooling

Mine is a 92, it doesn't have a fan.
I've never been worried about it.
I did have a Mesa 6550 lose vacuum and frost after 30+ years.
That's it, no other drama.

My blackline has a fan, honestly I didn't notice when it died. I did replace it.

Hey all recently got a svt 2 pro head with a 810 cabinet. Currently it is not in a rack and it will probably never leave the house except once or twice a year for big outdoor shows.
What is everyone using to place it securely and not look like it’s falling off the back of the cabinet? The 810 is setup for a traditional Ampeg head so this obviously doesn’t sit correctly. Ideas?

What a pain... as it turns out my left handle is stripped from the inside and missing the first four threads so I’m going to need another. This set I bought was from Fliptops but they are no longer available.
Is anyone sitting on a spare or know where I can find one? I’ve looked everywhere.
