Ampeg SVT Micro Stack

I think it would be interesting if it was either:

CHOICE 1: Class A tube powered

or

CHOICE 2: Had power specs like an Acoustic Image Focus, 2 ohm capable, each cab 4 ohms and capable of 400 watts. That could be interesting.

The look is of course, classic. I concur that they missed an opportunity here... imagine if the head had a real-deal SVT Tube Pre with the rockers and everything and then a SS power amp along the lines of the Shuttle or Markbass stuff to get you your stage volume with that 2x10 (or a pair of 2x10s) and then you'd actually want to use the balanced line out to feed the PA with all of that tubey SVT preamp goodness. I'd pay a grand for that EASY.

Call off the seach!!
I believe they combined would make 4 ohms!!! (and would then make my SVT classic happy!!)

True, the combined load would be 4 ohms; by using an 8 ohm cabinet on the "regular" speaker jack, and by adding another 8 ohm cab on the "external speaker out" jack, it'll make the amp think its a 16 ohm load. I did a bit of research on it a while back.

150w isn't exactly a joke. Might not be usable on a metal gig, but for most of us it's plenty.

the speaker looks like its a 8ohm and the head is 150 at 4ohms so it would probably be 75ish watts which puts it into the micro ashdown stack range but the ashdown is 1/2 the price

man it could of been cool hell if it was cheeper I would buy it for a house practice amp

I just found these... I got a marshall guitar micro-stack for my kids to play on (they're too young, but they'll grow into it - at least that's my argument and I'm sticking with it), and it would be great to get a bass one too.

Trouble is over here the Ampegs are listed at about $1300!!! The Ashdown ones are discontinued, but they're going second hand for under $300... if you can find one (I'll be looking out). A baby SVT would be so cool next to the baby marshal, but not for that price. Be realistic, they're not "real" amps - they're VERY nice toys. I can blow some cash for "cute" and "sooooo sweet", but not $1000+

I got to play one in the store yesterday

The Pros
-It is nice and loud,Good and clear with a good boom to rattle glass a little. I really liked the sound it is much better than I anticipated.
-It's adorable

The Cons
Screams Cheapness. Super lightweight in a "bad way" Feels like it is made of cardboard. The Marshall Micro Stack looks road ready compared to this unfortunately.

Super Light Weight but an odd shape to carry and not super portable in a Taxi or Bus etc. No handles and the Cab does not lock to the Head, just sits in four recessed holes.

The need to add Speakon Connecters to get with the times. The inputs front and back seem Flimsy.

It could be real nice but for the $$$$ they are charging this is going to be a SKIP for me

Other units in the same price range will devastate this , Personally I am going to go with a Genz-Benz Shuttle 300.
