Ampeg SVT-Pro-2

Ihave, rather my bass palyer has an Ampeg SVT Pro2 amp. When he plugs in all he gets is very trebley sound and not much power. No Idea how the problem happened, it was that way when I started playing with these guys. I do have some electronics background but I thought maybe one of you young fellers good lead me right to the problem.

What cabinet is it connected to?
What does the EQ look like?
When was the last time it was serviced?

His cab isn't 3"x3" & looks like a piezzo horn is it m ;p

+1 to above questions 1st. No way that amp should sound thin if working & set up properly

Could be a bum tube, bum cap maybe, or a problem with one of your pots or a connection inside...I'd start with swapping out each tube with a known good one of each type and see if that makes a difference. If not, then a visit to the tech is in order.

Also, clean all the jacks, especially the effects return and the power amp input. Plug in a plug about 10 times after using the cleaner.

Both of the jacks have "through" connections when they have nothing plugged-in, and those can get dirty and corroded if not used.

Thanks for the help guys. I will check it out. I put all the tubes thru a tester and they are all good. I will check the caps. Anybody have a schematic?

Did you check the pre-amp tubes and effects loop yet?

I would definitely check the simple things before you start going through the amp with a schematic and multimeter.

Yes I checked all the tubes and jacks. I will check the effects loop. I want the schematic to have it for any future problems. I really shouldn't need it for this one. I do have an electronic background and a degree in electronic repair, I just have very old eyes and don't see the smaller components to well.

Have you checked the speaker cable(s), instrument cable, and cab?

Have it serviced by an experienced tube-amp tech...money WELL spent.
