Ampeg SVT tech near Pittsburgh, PA?

I googled and also searched this site and came up with nothing. Any good techs who can check out my amp? Its a 1975 SVT i got in a trade. I guy I traded with said he got it couple years ago and was told it had been recently serviced but wasnt sure.

Last night at the gig this amp was doing something weird. It was playing but like static from time to time. It was like a bad guitar cable but all my cables were fine. (Sorry, I described this poorly) Could this be tubes? What does the amp do when the tubes are going bad?

Obviously i dont want to ship this head. I live in Latrobe, PA. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know how experienced/proficient with Ampeg the guy at Main St Music is, but he's done a good job on some of my tube amps.

Just a shot in the dark, but have you tried jumping between the effects Send and Receive? It’s a simple thing to try, and sometimes it helps with you type of problem.

Just a shot in the dark, but have you tried jumping between the effects Send and Receive? It’s a simple thing to try, and sometimes it helps with you type of problem.

Ok, will definitely give that a try. What would this rule out?

I hopped on the Ampeg site and searched their service centers. Why I didnt think of this immediately IDK. Nearest service center is in Elwood City, PA. which is about 1.5 hours away. They are certified Ampeg and with this amp being nearly 50 years old... Probably best to give them a call first.

If jumpering the effects loop jacks clears up the problem, it probably means the internal switch which bypasses the effects loop itself has become a bit dirty or corroded. It’s a simple thing to clean (very carefully, with a minimum of cleaning solution).
