Ampeg SVT4-pro crossover cabs - suggestions

I am currently running my Ampeg SVT4-pro into an 1100w Emperor 2x12 1x15 cab.

My interest is piqued in thinking about using the crossover section on my amp by selling the emperor and picking up a two 2 ohm cabs (1 2x12 and 1 1x15).

Thoughts?
Am I just having a GAS attack?
If not, what should I look into? In my searches I haven't seen any 2 ohm cabs in the config that I'm looking for that can handle 600w each.

Firstly, you'd be hard-pressed to find cabs that will actually handle 600 watts easch, unless they're really BIG cabs, like 8x10's. (cab ratings are BS, and usually HALF their rating is closer to truth), and secondly, unless you had a dedicated subwoofer and specialized mid drivers, anything else you buy "off the shelf" will be full range, so bi-amping would be a waste of time.
I'd suggest finding a cab you like, buying 2 of them, and running them both full range. Should kill.

I had a SVT-4 PRO for years with a 4*10 and 1*15 cabs.

I did every imaginable swap as far as full range, bi-amp, bridge mono mode, dual amp mode etc...

The best I could get from this amp is both cabinets in parallel (each were 8 ohms) for a 4 ohms load in bridge-mono mode.

I was getting IMO the best of the amp.

All other settings were either anemic, sounded weird, or just dull. (as usual, YMMV)

It could have been the very combination of your cabinets that was causing you the problems.

2Ω cabs are very hard to find for the simple reason that no one makes them as a standard.

Using the bi-amp feature you need a cab optimized for low frequency reproduction and a cab optimized for highs. The average bass cabinet is meant for full range. Reread RickenBoogie's post - he is correct on all points.

for the same effect as biamping you may as well buy a fEARful and run it bridged mono, that will get you the tonal effect and full power from your amp

I would have to agree that you do get more out of the svt4 pro by going mono bridge, that's how I started. Then I switched to Bi-amp.. I guess one nice feature about bi-amp is you can have a little more control and speaker protection. Add in effects/preamps to only one amp hi/low.

I play five string a lot and I found with my settings I felt like I Was pushing the 4x10s to much. So I picked up an 18 and switched to bi-amp mode. I guess it all depends on what you need out of it.. Personally I love my tone, and have more than enough power still with out clipping anything.

Cabs I have paired with the SVT4 Pro

Ampeg 8-10 classic more than enough to handle the mono bridge.
