Is anybody running ampeg svx live in place of a rig? I tried it a couple of times and thought it did alright, but I'm guitar player that has switched over to bass, so I could be way off. I am using The westone Es2 iem so I don't have to worry about having a rig for monitoring purposes. Any thoughts or experiences?

If it works, it works. As long as you have a good computer that doesn't lock up easily, it should be fine.

Stefan Lessard (DMB) reportedly used one this summer for their nationwide/worldwide tour.
I'd be interested to read his thoughts on the rig, both before and after the tour.

Just IMHO, I don't see how using a computer output, ins and outs, latency, and digital clipping/simulations is any easier than using a real rig.
If I was going the 100% silent route, I'd be more at ease with something hardware based like a POD.

Yes, but, when you're a mega rockstar like Stefan and don't do anything but just play and sometimes trigger stuff from a MIDI board, and that's what you pay your TECH to do, it's alright.
Plus I was reading why he implemented it, to achieve various tonal options while sticking with his all-Ampeg rig. That's why he used to have so many preamps and amps and this huge rack of legendary gear!

have wanted to try it out and might just do it for '09.
the guitarist for one of my main gigs has switched to Guitar Rig for his "rig" and the sound is stellar, night and day over what he had with the Podxt stuff(and he had that tweaked to sounding reeeeally good)
we're on in ears a swell. i've only just used preamps or pedals but did use the M-Audio BlackBox reloaded for our last little jaunt and it was a blast.
been thinking about picking up the SVX software.
And as for Software vs. Hardware...... well, I'd take the processors in a Mac any day over what's in my M-Audio (just gotta get me a MOTU)

Not surprising.
I love Stefan, and wish I could have put down on tape at his age what he did on the first 3 DMB major-label albums, but for the life of me they still cannnot figure out his FOH sound, after all this time. It's utterly ridiculous.
On the DVD's he seems just fine and right in there, but of course that's post upon post upon post upon post production and re-recording, and I know also from seeing them various times that ain't how it sounds live. At least the soundboard engineer gets a good show... sheesh.
Even with his Fleas he was all stuck in the mix, but this is just live. I've got most all of their Live Trax discs, and he seems just fine at the soundboard.
If there comes along an affordable version of an interface that allows for an external loop adjustable for send and return, with a couple other brands modelled I'll be all over switching to a laptop rig. I'm close to switching back to a multi for preamp anyway.
My hangup is how I prefer GK tones to Ampeg tones and haven't discovered that gutsy grind with boxes or bits yet. Clean GK yes, but not the typical GK rock grind.
