I had to sell my V4B last winter and now I see another one at a local shop which looks like a mid to late 70's model for sale. I was thinking of grabbing it, but I also own an SVTII and a B15 and between them both, I think the SVT can cop the V4B tone with tweaks in the mids. I see them going up in price as of late, but the local deal has me thinking of getting another v4b.
Hi guys, i recently got a 76 V4 and im slowly getting around to getting it back to as near original as i can.
I'm trying to track down the rubber chassis shock mounts at a good price. A couple in my amp have separated. Im in Australia so buying through fliptops etc isn't really an option due to cost and postage.
Does anyone know the dimensions of the mounts? I think they are 8/32 posts, im not sure of the height. Ill have source them locally. Thanks in advance.

The V4B cabinet reissue from the 90's...anyone have/had one? I assume this was released along side the V4BH. Folded horn just like the original one. I'm curious if the dimensions are the same as the original and if the re-ish was a better sounding cabinet.

That's the V4 (guitar) cabinet. There was a folded horn 215 in the modern style with the black grill cloth and the white piping. Came out in the 90's, I believe. Very similar, perhaps identical except for the drivers, to the original.

There is one for sale on Reverb right now. I am pretty sure it uses the same speakers as the SVT215, SVT15E and SVR215.
It is bigger (deeper) then the SVT 810 - but about the same height/width.

That rig would still weigh about 5-8 pounds more than my Heritage SVT-CL/810E
I would like to hear that cab though. It must put out a pounding.
Weirdly enough, for me the issue would not be the weight, but the depth of the cab. I dislike overly deep cabs as they take up too much room onstage.
I'm sure it does use that driver and that's a GREAT 15, but unfortunately in the W bin config it doesn't have any real low bass....unlike in the SVT-215E.
Got my V4 back from the shop today with a bag of old parts. It now has brand new caps.
I mainly use it for bass but I recently acquired an ampeg V412 guitar cab with vintage 30s. The V4 sounds really good paired with it for guitar. I also have an ampeg VH140C head that I use with this cab.

Well, I've had my V4B for a few years now and love it. I was just thinking I had never formally gotten a number for this club - so, if they are still being given out, I'd like one!

agree. i had a 72 that was amazing with a squareback. still cant believe i traded it in for a sunn beta bass in 82.

This one was $165. Picked it up this week, and man, it's pretty versatile!
With guitar, running through an '82 Marshall cab with Celestion '65 speakers, the cleans are glorious, the natural OD is crunchy, and it can get paint peeling loud.
With bass, I set it on my Carvin cabs that are Emminence loaded, and man, it growls. Similar natural bite to an SVT, but seems to have more of a mid punch, at least to my ears.
The shop had it repaired by a tech, prior to selling it, and it's been recapped, had a filter, and a preamp tube replaced, but it's mostly stock.
This would be early 70's, right?

Yes, early 70's. Because of the three prong outlet, maybe around 74. The pots are hard to get at but they have date codes, look for a code starting with 137 followed by year and week of manufacture. So 1377420 is the 20th week of 1974.
You are missing the back panel. This is common. The amp runs hot and people take them off to help with cooling, they get lost. Fliptops.net sells repros, I made one for mine.
