Ampeg V4B + 212AV Volume

Well my Ampeg V4B and 212av cab have served me well for a good while now and I've never really had any volume issues. Now it just so happens that I'm playing in two "punk" bands and the guitar players are a little bit louder than what I'm used to dealing with (50 watt tube amps). My current setup with a single 212av is JUST loud enough, but I would really like to have a little bit of extra volume to spare.

Will adding a second 212av make a huge difference? I really hope so, because I'm content with the sound, portability, and appearance of my rig. Thanks!

I had two, 212AVs w/ V4B for one gig with two loud gitards in a blues rock band. The whole rig was just a couple weeks old Soon after, I sent one of the 212AV's back and ordered a single 112AV. Didn't care to carry two 212 cabs around.

So I'd use 3x12's (112+212) at times and got away with it, volume wise. Amp sat up higher and I could hear myself better with that 112AV on top. This may or may not work for you. Not super sure of the long term implications of using the V4B at around 2.67 ohms but many have said it's not an issue. I now use the single 112AV more for a lot of lower volume gigs I'm getting booked for. And I have a few other lighter cabs I prefer to haul to gigs over the 212AV. So the two cabs don't get used together anymore. But it sure sounded great the one night I gigged those two, 212AVs.

A difference yes. But a huge difference I would characterise as what you get being able to push two cabs with almost double the power in the SS realm. You would need to be getting same increase over again to get to that level of hugeness but I think you will be happy with the half measure of huge.

You get more volume adding a cab.
When I had a Bass 400 I decided since the 2x15 made my stomach flop and my shorts move I should totally try adding my 8x10. I was nauseous from the spl in my parents garage.

I use an electric blue head and a single gs112nt at home.
I have another cab, but then I'm blasting YouTube when I'm playing along to something and my girlfriend's cats are bouncing all over the house freaked. The extra couple watts doesn't do anything, it's the other 12" that becomes a bit much for civil conversation.

I guess my question is what is the wattage when using one 212av with the V4B and what is it after adding an additional cabinet (in this case, another 212av)? Does "more volume by adding a cab" translate to more watts?

You are going to get 100 watts from 8ohms down to 2ohms.
Tubes heads are like Catholic school, you get what you get.

I'd tell them to turn down or we are going box.
I'm not down for an amp arms race, I have an SVT, it can still escalate from there.
Think biathalon in the special Olympics.

I used a RAT pedal barely on bc it cost me $20. Dial in some snot and you're golden.
This isn't me, but it will sound the same:

If you lived in California used Ampeg 810e's are $350 any day of the long....why are you spending your money when telling them to turn down is free??

Bc volume wars are like lifting weights only by maxing out.
You get no real gains that way.

RAT pedal!!!!

You guys decide to make this a marriage, then I'd worry about spending more than whatever a RAT costs now to fix this (possibly temporary) problem.

This dude plays outdoors gigs with a V4B and a Goliath SR. I dug a bunch of his clips, mainly bc Goliath 6x10's are under $350 locally and he is playing a Sire.

I respect a guy that doesn't go too crazy with the tools of his trade.
