so svt-cl's are expensive and im a young poor kid in a rock n roll band... I hear the v4b's are ****ing fantastic though... I have one im looking at via craigslist thats a 1970 v4b... will i be happy with it considering what i want is that ampeg classic rock n roll tone?

The ONLY thing is that it has low wattage for some people.
I gig with a 70's Traynor YBA-3 which is a 100w and some change and i'm fine.
But if you play in a louder act, count on needing the cab(s) to produce enough volume. I use my 4x10 mostly, but if i need more, i have my 2x15... and i've never needed to really crank anything!

There's a V4BH for sale on the TB classifieds right now. Might also be a couple of V4B's as well. The V4BH is a little more modern version of the V4B. I grabbed a used V4BH here a few months ago and I dig it.
V4BH vs V4/V4B is sort of like the SVT-CL vs vintage SVT/SVT-VR debate. The modern style heads have a more subdued sound IMO, not quite as powerful as the vintage versions. The V4/V4B with an 8x10 will sound huge (that was my rig for a while) and will have enough volume for most people. The thing gets rip roaring loud. It certainly has it own tone, more aggressive than an SVT IMO, all around a very good amp. Wish I still had mine, but I couldn't afford to keep both that and the SVT.
Just sold a vintage V4B here last week.

I bought mine nearly 35 years ago and it's never been apart and has the original tubes; super long life amps; very well made.
Want a recording secret? Buy a large (like 150 watt) 4 ohm power resistor and connect to the speaker ouput jack, send a line from the front end of the head (says something like pre-amp out) to a DI to a recording console. Best rock tone I ever got; better than a Countryman DI or even a miked B-15.
100 watts requires an effecient cab set up; not the best choice for say a 1x15 if you want clean

used to run a v4b into an 810. played in very loud bands and never wanted for volume (had pa most of the time but sometimes didn't and it still got very loud when needed). i'd still be using it if it hadn't got destroyed in a bar fire.
