Does it leave a residue or cut low mids?
I've used gaffer's tape to make a mechanical filter that covers a tweeter. It helps smooth out spikey high end.

Yeah, I knew he had those two basses (in addition to others) from the last time I saw Sleep.Yes, Al's rig. The Ricky basses are another clue.
I hope that they weren't planning on taping the cable down on the amp.

Next best thing to disconnecting the tweeter entirelyI've used gaffer's tape to make a mechanical filter that covers a tweeter. It helps smooth out spikey high end.
I don't think it matters much. The older SVT's would require you to daisy chain the cabs, but newer ones have an impedance switch instead of relying on the transformer itself, so I think it's about the same either way you go.I got the 610 cab. Sounds like the amp performs better with a single 4ohm cab than 2 8ohm cabs.
It looks tacky, which is way more important than sound.Does it leave a residue or cut low mids?
I have two just like that one, that's a good deal, I'd snap it up quick if I were you. What's that on top, one of it's kids?
3 SVTs.
Now I don't feel deranged for having 9 basses.
Did you snap it up? Looks in really nice shape and that's a great deal for that.
There's not even a speck of outwardly apparent corrosion on it.
I had to. I snatched that up like I was stealing it.
It should be here on Tuesday. I'm planning to leave it with a reputable local tech to look it over on Thursday. New, correct grill cloth coming from FlipTops.
Ya gotta have that many, or the kid down the block with his 1000 watt bass amp will think you're goofy for having so little power in your rig.
The thing is that SVT's with their 810 cabs are louder than most 1000 watt heads with the fashionable tiny cabs being used today. This is my very unscientific opinion.![]()
The tiny cabs being made today will go “loud”, but the rolloff in the low end (that’s what you typically lose with a small cabinet) means they are very inefficient at low frequencies. Your opinion may not be based in science, but mine is, and I agree with you. A big part of the desire for more power is to dig some low end out of those tiny cabs.
If you make the speakers big enough, you don’t need nearly as much power, and the rig will last longer as a result.
Yup. There are some small cabs that go really low but they're usually inefficient.
Acmes are the only cabs I know of that actually do justice to the fundamentals of a low E. They are less efficient at mid and high frequencies, but at 40 Hz, they are just as efficient as anyone else’s cabs. As a result, they don’t take as much extra power as you’d think.
