Ampeg Weight Issues

I recently just bought a 410 HLF, 610 HLF and 810HE. I used to own 410HE and 15E but wanted to upgrade to the better speakers. The HEs were so convienient because they were light. Rehearsals and jams were a breeze.

But these bad boys are just ridiculous loading and unloading. I knew the 810 would be heavy but I figured I would only use it for big gigs so its rarely used. The 610 I thought could be lifted but no and the 410 is so chunky and its actually deeper that the 610 and 810 and is incredibly heavy even for a 410.

Was just wondering if there is some sort of hardware device I can buy to load and unload it into the car without bothering my neighbour for help or giving myself a hernea? Thanks.

I went to two 410HE cabs. An 810 is basically two chambers with 410's in them. It is much more convenient. I have also used HLF cabs in the past and found them a little muddy. You can get a great sound out of HE cabs if you tweak your EQ a bit.

Also, I'm seeing a bit of redundance in your rigs. The 410hlf you know is hugely deep sounding, the 810 is what it is...why the 610?. Seems there isn't much difference there. IMO of course, you may have perfectly good reasons for it.

Have you seen Dino's video on loading an 810 into a station wagon (or are they called hatch backs)?

A lot depends on your car. It sounds more complicated than it is. Basically use a leaver.

I sometimes use a 3/4" plywood ramp to load things into the back seat of my 4-door. Open the door, lay the ramp on the seat and the ground. The ramp is long enough so that a couple of feet extends beyond the height of the seat. Place the ATA case with the amp in it onto the ramp and slide it up, then tip up the ramp from the ground and slide the box in.

Hey that video was really helpful thanks. I'm actually buying those Ampeg covers so that'll save me using a blanket.

At will33, I am buy no means an expert on speakers but I guess my justification to your redundancy issue is that the 610 and 410HLFs are ported cabs which makes solid states sound nicer and the 810 is a sealed cab more for tubes.

Why I have both HLFs is basically just a power issue. 410 for small gigs/jams and 610 for larger. Do you think thats still redundant though?

I live in Australia but you should check out craigslist and you can find some great deals man. I just acquired all 3 used in the last few weeks from Gumtree.

They are incredibly heavy and pretty much antiquated. My best advice is to buy better gear.

If you've got to move these, the video posted in this thread is good. I'd rather move an 8x10 than the 410HLF or the 6x10, personally.

I dont see how ampeg products are antiquated? Most live bassists I see these days still use Ampeg gear. Sure there are newer brands who make equally as powerful gear with half the weight but they cannot beat the sound of the SVT. Also define better gear?

He's just giving his opinion. I personally would just hit the gym so I'd be strong enough to toss around an 8x10 like it was a 1x10 and also be able to wrestle those who mocked my gear!

A hoist like this with a couple hook-straps, (connected to the cabs handles) instead of that net would work awesome:

They're exspencive new, but you can find used ones at a reasonable cost.

how is the 610 compared to the 410? i herd the way the same and the 6 10 is not as deep.

my 410hlf is getting torn up being slid into the backseat of my ford taurus. i gotta find a diffrent cab

Those things are back-breakers. I had a 410HLF and had a near death experience with it on a flight of stairs. Went to GK NEOs and never looked back. Those cabs are for rock stars with roadies and kids who think you need an 810 in a 100 person club.

By the way... the idea that the 410HLF is for "smaller gigs" is crazy. I'd bet there's not a single show you'd play that the cab would not be sufficient for. Maybe if you played a sold out Red Rocks and the PA was broken.
