That's probably a good idea. I own a 108, and like the 208, you've got to hit it with some juice before it really starts to open up. I'd definitely be more comfotable with more headroom with the 108.

I just got back from playing the Jazz Factory with the AMT through the EA iAmp800 and the 208, just one week after playing the same room with the PUB. It's apples and oranges. The EA stuff wins by a mile, especially if you want to drive the band...BUT, it should sound twice as powerful because it is, and because the 208 pushes twice as much air as the PUB. Much as I like the Clarus, they're both in another league. Before too long, I'll hopefully develop a good feel for which should go to which gig.

I had the same problem with stepping on the wire and ripping it out of the gooseneck. I like to mount the AMT on the E side of the bass which makes matters a little worse.

I have now resorted to tieing the cord around the end pin and found this to solve my problem.

All-in-all, the mic works very well for me although not quite as quiet as a Neuman KM 184 or 185 (and I'm really nit-picking here now). I haven't found this to matter though for live situations but I wouldn't want to record with it.

Hello guys, I received my AMT a week ago from the states. It is a fine microphone in all ways except for one thing. Sometimes, not often but sometimes, a small 'click' is heard from the microphone, sometimes when I'm holding the bass, sometimes when it's lying down on its side. I'm using battery power, but that shouldn't be a problem, right? I will try phantom power soon and see if the problem remains.

Have you had this kind of problem or heard something about it?

I haven't had or heard of anything like this. Has this happened in different places or just at home (or at one club, etc)? If you've only noticed it, say at home, it could be something like your refrigerator turning on and off.

Sounds like it could be one of two things:

1) If you have a loose connection in the cable or mic/preamp/amp chain, sometimes a motion like walking on the floor by the bass or a truck going by outside can jiggle the faulty connection in such a way as to produce a click. I have a certain floorboard in my music room which, if I step on it, jiggles the joist underneath and makes the monitor speakers on the other side of the room pop because one of the cable connections isn't tight.

2) Static. Weird as it sounds, if you are in a very dry period climatewise, sometimes you can get static electriciy buildup in your cables, which can cause all sorts of weird popping and crackling noises. I've not had this problem in my new house, but in my old apartment with the cast-iron steam heat, it hapened all the time.

Marty Paglione is the designer of the mic and AMT's technical guy. If you ring the tech. support number (not the sales number), he is the guy you will speak to. He'll talk your ear off but he's very helpful. Let him know you just got it and you're having this problem and it makes it impossible to use. He will probably have some ideas for what it could be and if thinks there is something faulty he can help you get it back for immediate repair or replacement.

Just played a gig yesterday with Craig Wagner, who was using his month-old AMT (the guitar model) on his archtop. It sounded great, but was having the same problem with "popping noises". I think those cables are just too damn thin to stand up to the strain of regular gigging! Anyway, he said he would probably do what I did and get Gary Falk to redesign his cable so that it becomes a regular gauge mic cable. Mine has been rock solid ever since I had it fixed. But Robert, definitely call Marty - he's a helluva nice guy who really believes in the AMT, and he's really helpful besides.

Thanks guys, I tried to reach Marty today without luck, but I'll try again later.

Regarding the cables, I've pulled all cables from mic to preamp, from preamp to mixer, etc, the sound does not appear when I do this. The sound appears when you least expect it, and it sounds like a small voltage transient, maybe some discharge between the electret film and the electrode?

I'm loving the AMT to death for the sound - nothing I've tried has even come close. But I've found another weird design thing: certain frequencies seem make a rattle sound in the gooseneck. Depending on where I mount it, different pitches make this strange "springing" sound. Thankfully, it doesn't make it through into the amplified tone, but it's annoying acoustically. Anybody else experience this?

I may have to break down and send it in for the tailpiece mount upgrade, but first I want to figure out how to stop this noise.
