An issue with Rickenbacker

Of course Im joking but its not too far off.
For some its like owning a exotic European sports car (more like a 1974 MGB in the late 1980s), or being in an elite club where there is none of those nasty "foreign" versions like Fender (Squire) or Gibson (Epiphone) has and you buy them as investments, like stock and bonds or bitcoin if you are under 25 lol and you do everything in your power to keep the prices going up, up, up! Oh sweet Rickenbacker investment bring me an early retirement!
One member started a post titled "ISO a FireGlo 4003s will pay $1500. He was attacked several times and had a half a dozen laughing emojis. Because everyone knows you are only suppose to sell or buy a used Rickenbacker for $100-200 less than list lol. It took about 20 mins and someone posted they had one they would sell. People were ringing their hands and jumping up and down, mad as hell that they paid $1900 for their used bass and that he got his so cheap. One guy called him a douche bag lol.
In fact the seller even said in the ad $1500 OR BEST OFFER! the guy could have gotten it for $1400 if it wasnt posted on his post and people like me who were looking for one in that price ranged also hadnt see it. :O

Here's the type of people who buy Rickenbackers for wall hangers now (see shirts?)

Nah. Geezer got that bass from Glenn Hughes and used it for only a handful of shows. He really dislikes it. Hughes wants it back but Geezer won't give it to him. It's actually some quality ball busting on Geezer's part.

Although the entire internet is an agglomeration of different people and perspectives, there's something about TalkBass that elevates the concept in a strange and amusing way.

Thread starts about a brand or specific model

"I really enjoy this bass I have here"

"What the... I don't like that brand... that brand sucks how can you even mention them in a positive light?"

But they didn't need to go off and block the OP either over just that either. But they have acted like this before. I wouldn't mind having a new 4003s, but I'm quite happy with the basses I have right now.

Exactly, lets not make this political please. I simply stated an issue I had with what Rickenbacker did to me.

Some of you want to argue about Geezer liking Ricks or who gave it to him, that wasn’t the point it’s the polo set vs RnR lol insert your favorite Rickenbacker player that liked Rickenbackers, there’s not very many that actually “liked” Rickenbackers once they played them. Most switched to a Fender. You have to want to play one to put up with all the horse sh!t that surrounds them. Especially nowadays with all the nerds and investors making them less cool.

But you're right to an extent about folk moving away from them; certainly I did.

No. Thins were changed some 18-20 years ago. Each manufacturer has the right to do or not to do warranty and how to handle it.

Few years back I bought a brand new 4003SW. When I got it I was absolutely dumbfounded how this bass passed QC! The fret work was horrible!! The worst I have seen on a brand new bass. Sharp fret edges on both sides of the neck from the first fret to the last. So bad it would cut you! My $500 Sire bass had fretwork light years better. And I've seen budget Squier basses with better fretwork!

I called RIC about it, they were actually quite rude when I spoke to them.

I decided to keep the bass because the Walnut body was actually quite nice and the bass was super light weight. So I had to re-dress ALL the fret ends to make the bass playable. So the fact they shipped that bass the way it was tells me they have real problems there.

Got the exact same problem on a 4003AC, a 3800€ bass
But I did the same keeping it because I love it
The 420 Club...errr...The Rickenbacker 4003AC Club of Course!
