:eyebrow:somebody posted this on my bands fb page today.. does anyone else find it odd to praise a band then offer your services?? or am i just being defensive?
personally, i would never go to a bands site as if im responding to a craigslist ad.

It's low class but what do you expect from social media? They let ANYONE on FB. And "anyone" includes dorks. Don't make a big deal out of it. Ignore it altogether. If you are comfortable in your position, just let it go. If you give it any attention it could turn into an internet drama and serve no purpose.

You should reply. "Thank you for your kind words. We are glad you enjoyed our record and it is always nice to hear from fans. However, we aren't looking for anyone to fill in the roll of bass player at the moment.

Regards,

The bass player"

But run it through your band first.

Eh, I don't think he meant harm. Some people just do not understand 'how things work'

I did **** like that all the time when I was 16, and then I learned to be embarrassed really young. I do not think he meant it as any kind of affront to you (the bass player), I think he simply dug it and wished it was his band!

Hell, these days I always 'want in' on my buddys' projects! I've subbed for some, taken the place of some entirely, and cameo'd with non-bass groups, and if I didn't ask for at least a few of those in embarrassing ways then let science strike me down!!

Granted, theres a grey area that I mind carefully, and he did cross it, but I would just take it as a compliment, or at least as motivation to kill it every time!

Guy liked the band, recognises things change in bands, and offered his services direct rather than stalk your site waiting for a "wanted" ad to pop up. No harm no foul. Build a bridge I say. Even better than get all defensive on the reply, maybe have another member acknowledge the kind words and decline on the bass players behalf?

But I do it all the time. Offer my services I mean. One day I just know I'll get that call from Jaymz, Tom or Dave (Hetfield, Araya, Mustaine) ;) :D

I seriously doubt it. I would never, ever even remotely consider hiring someone who made a post like that because it is obvious that they would be a rude $%& to deal with and I don't need that kind of person in my band.

That's just my opinion though so knock yourself out.

Well we thought it was funny and NO, I would never call him out in a reply. I think the NO reply he got was enough. After all, he is a fan and bought a cd. If I saw him at a show, I will jokingly F with him, then maybe he'll get it was a bad idea. Anyway, thx for input, it's all good.

The band is Son Of Swan, out of dallas. Cool guitar driven instrumental group ala vai, satch, but not shred.

"I don't know what the situation with your bass player is"

Sounds like he thinks he's better than you

I would find that a bit offensive but I wouldn't think too much of it.

"I don't know what the situation with your bass player is"

reads to me like: "I dont know if your bass player is a full time member of your band, or just a hired gun for the gig in which I saw you guys play"

To get that the poster thinks he is better than the bass player of the band from that is reading way too much into things, IMO.

I would write,

"Dear Bass Player. I am the current Bass Player in this band. Both of my parents, my six kids, and my dog are all in the hospital. I have seventeen full time jobs, and I owe the IRS a kazillion dollars and eleven cents. I have studied Bass Guitar since thirteen months before I was born, and have lost the feeling in six of my fingers, such is my dedication to the instrument. This band is the one thing that stops me from going insane, and killing everyone on the East Coast with my Weather Machine that was invented by Nazi scientists. It is the only chance my family has for survival, and means more to me than anything in life ever has.

But if you'd like me to step down so you can have a gig, I guess I could.

Let me know,

Signed,

Larry"

(or whatever your name is)
