And now let me proudly present...

In fact, in 19 years of experience with kidney stones, this is the first one that made me pee visible blood. All of the others only turned the urine into a dark yellow color, but this one turned it red when the problem started like one month ago. It lasted like five days, though. Then the color returned to dark yellow.

Agh!! Why the heck do I keep coming back to this thread?

TMI!!!TMI!!!

I've been passing kidney stones roughly once every 5-6 months since I was 16, and there is probably nothing worse in life than sitting through the pain of one.

When I was 16, I had an impassible kidney stone (about 1.6 cm wide) and it was surgically removed. Sucked.

But hey, you feel a lot better now, right? My last huge stone I passed was roughly the size of a pencil eraser, and I felt a lot better when that was finished.

IME, peeing it out isn't the problem, it's when it's grinding into your side is when you want to crawl into the fetal position and die.

I agree with bass guy about the fetal position. my luck i have a high tolerance for pain. my first stone they tried to blast out. it didnt bust. about a month later they went up the old shaft to get it. the stint they left in for a whole damn week sssssssuuuuuuucccccckkkkkkkkeeeeeeeddddddddd. imagine pullin 16 inches of stint out your shaft. wwwwhhhhhaaaaaa. my next stone came out on its own..........after nine straight days of pain. i even went to work (im a diesel mechanic) i hate to hear people havin kidney stones. im so glad it came out for you. oh by the way i got another one floatin in me again on my right side.

Thats what I was thinking...
You'll just poop it out this time (hopefully).

Can it fit up your nose?

Put it in someones ice cube, or hot fudge w/nuts sundae.

Congrats!!!

Haha! Putting that in someone's hot-fudge sundae would be about the most rotten, horrible practical joke. Hilariously disgusting, that is.

Of course, if someone did that to me, I'd kill 'em.

Please excuse my curiousity, but what causes this condition? I've heard about 'kidney stones' but know nothing about them.

It happens to people like me, who aren't used to peeing several times a day. It was normal to me when I was a kid and it's a shame that nobody warned me about the consequences. Small pieces of calcium and other minerals get "stuck" into the kidneys since there's not so much fluid movement inside and then the stones appear. No problems when they're inside (unless there's a HUGE one) but when they go out the kidney looking for an exit is when real problems come. Unfortunately, the best way to avoid them is drinking lots of water (or beer) and reducing the milk-based foods consumption, and I do exactly the opposite. Sometimes I take a daily pill of hydrochlorothiazide, a diuretic that helps the kidneys to work. The only downside of this drug is that it lowers potasium levels, which is solved by eating bananas.

BTW, if you want to know if you have stones in your kidneys, it's very simple: Take a partial urine test at any lab and look (or ask) if the results show blood traces. If so... welcome to the club.
