Double Bass Andre Chardon Bow - Tourte Model

hi! Does anyone have any info on this maker (Andre Chardon)? The bow looks amazing... Tourte model. Anyway I'm just trying to decide if I should have it sent to me to try.

Why are there pins in the tip bone? And the tip looks like metal also. It looks like there are pins or nails just beyond the end of the hair. I've never seen that on a bow before. Usually, the bone tip is just glued in place. I'd be worried about that vibrating, that it belies some past damage or that is belies some unconventional repair. It might be a great bow, but it might need some attention to the tip. Not a big deal. It can probably be repaired by replacing the bone tip, but it is a question that begs an answer.

hi, everyting is original by the maker (early 20th century). its a silver tip (silver mounted bow). the bow is in excellent condition with no cracks.

Often a silver tip will be used to adjust balance if the bow is tip-light. Those pins are common practice to help keep the silver tip in place. You can see the same work down on frog on the silver behind the slide. The rings that make the button are also pinned in the same manner.

yeah true. Also a maker would silver and gold mounted their bows that were of higher quality like A.R. Bultitude.

How much does the bow weigh? That looks like an awful lot of lapping, combined with the extra weight on the tip. Not that there's anything wrong with weight. My Bazin is 146g.
