I'd like a number! I don't watch anime as much as I should but I'm a fan. I've been wanting to learn Driver's High by L'Arc~en~Ciel forever and I finally took the time to learn it! I think I'll have it down well enough by weeks end. I'm a big GTO fan in case you couldn't tell ;)

I don't always use Photoshop.

Clannad: After Story, that is.

Wow. I wasn't a fan of how it resolved itself, but that one really got to me a few times.

Clannad: AS makes everyone cry.

The ending was a little hard to understand if you never read/played the visual novel. Most of the original viewers in Japan would have, however, so they knew what was going on.

I'm a little surprised that I didn't see anyone mention the Girls Dead Monster band from "Angel Beats!" here. Did I miss it? Lotsa good songs on soundtracks from that show.

Indeed! I love the "complexity" of Japanese music basslines, it's a totally different music approach. Examples include tetsu of L'arc en Ciel (crazy bass lines!!!) and Seiji Kameda (Tokyo Jihen, my favourite Japanese band, he even plays some walking bass lines).

Btw, count me in too!!! I've played in a anime cover band and I just loved the feeling of playing those tunes haha.

Of course, some of these songs will mean a lot more to you if you have watched the anime(s) they come from.
If the song is related to an emotional moment from something else (an anime, for example),
you will recognize that particular piece of music as having had a hand in creating those emotions and you will relate to or remember the whole
("the whole" as in, everything that caused that emotion; that moment in the anime, for this example), just from hearing the music.
But I'm sure you already knew that. I just wanted to put it into words so I could say this:
Because of that frame of reference, I think I probably find some of these songs to be better than they really are.
It's kind of a weird thing to think about.
My emotional attachment to a song makes me like it more than I normally would or anyone else would without that attachment?
I don't know, maybe that's not so weird after all.
Maybe I need to grow up a little bit and maybe I need to stop leaving long, useless posts on dead threads at 4 am.

So, Yoko Kanno - Lithium Flower
Can anyone, pleaaase, tab out the bassline for this most incredible song? The tabs on the net are sparse and mostly not accurate. I got to figuring out the chords (a#m, c#, g#) but not really the awesomest part - the bassline.

Please, there has to be someone with a good ear that can play this song ?? A couple of us wanna suprise a friend with a cover, cause its prolly his favourite anime tune ever.

Wow, I missed this amazing thread by only...two years.

I am a huge anime fan, and have dreams of my band agreeing to cover an anime theme song. That day will probably never come, but that doesn't stop me from playing them myself. Honestly, a lot of people refuse to listen to any Japanese music at all, which is a shame because there is some good stuff out there.

On another note, I never see it mentioned, but there has to be a community of anime fans in TB. Is there a group I can join so I can stop feeling so...alone.

I got out of playing in 1994. Had all I could take of the drunks, both in-front-of-' & on-stage. Sold almost everything I had. Got fat and mean.

About 2006, I discovered anime. Or, more precisely, I discovered the RIGHT anime. UruseiYatsura (Rumiko Takahashi's first big hit). Flip, funny, satirical, and sweet all at once; equal parts Archie, Bewitched, and Bullwinkle.

When I discovered UruseiYatsura, I also discovered all the MUSIC associated with the show. There are 15 albums of OP's, ED's and BGM from the 5 years it ran on TV + the 5 movies & 12 OVA's (waitwhat?!). And, it's wonderful music! Sweet but not saccharine, slightly screwy, and the beauty of the female voice (all but forgotten in the Western Hemisphere).

My muse was reborn.

Then, I began discovering other anime. AzumangaDaioh. The bass line from Soramimi Keiki (5-string electric upright, oh yeah) was the final piece of the puzzle. That song brought me back to playing again. I am once again whole.

And more and more and more anime music. HaruhiSuzumiya -- the Live Alive episode. God Knows and Lost My Music. They ... actually ... ROCK! Lucky Star -- Motteke! Sailor Fuku! ... attitude and a tough bass riff!

And, then ... K-On!. When the animators GOT IT RIGHT with the close-up of Mio's left hand, playing the bass line... OH THANK YOU KYOTO ANIMATION!

Just when I thought all this had peaked -- VOCALOID. Some Western ears can't take the high range of Miku's voice; I find it strangely soothing. Watching the copies of the stream of the LIVE CONCERT this year (and subsequently buying the BluRay of the show in September & watching that) -- my mind is completely and permanently BLOWN.

And just when YOU thought all this had peaked ... allow me to suggest the Touhou Project series of computer games. The fans have taken the melodies of the BGM's and run with them, creating everything from Rock and Metal to solo piano pieces. Again, I am amazed.

So. Having said all that ....

How do I get a Number?
