Another 115He cab even if you do not need more volume?

Hi everyone, first of all i apologyze for my english. I have an ampeg portaflex 350 head matched to a 115he cab and i am very happy with the sound, do you think it is worth it to get a second 115he cab even if i don't need more volume?
Thanks in advance!

I have to agree. Bigger is always better for bass. That said, the one by itself sounds pretty good too, so it's not 100% necessary, but I've never had a rig with one small cab that wasn't improved when I added a second matching cab.

IMHO it depends upon what you want.

When you have two identical cabs you get perfect coupling across the frequency range in which the drivers are within 1/4 wavelength of each other. The coupling results in increased efficiency and fuller sound in the low end.

But stacking the cabs on top of each other will actually narrow their dispersion along the vertical axis and cause the formation of primary and secondary lobes. The primary lobe shoots at directly between the drivers. The angle and number of secondary lobes is a function of frequency and driver spacing.

If you stack the speakers on the floor and stand close to them, you will hear very strong low mids and very little upper mids or treble. At a distance of about 12-15 feet you will hear pretty much the full range of the speakers because your ears will be within the primary lobe of the dispersion pattern. If you want to hear a more full range sound closer to the speakers, I suggest tilting the top cab back. This will help widen the vertical dispersion. Course this can be problematic if you like to put your amp on top of your speakers. Then again, you might like a dark sound with lot of low mids.

Like I said at the beginning...it depends upon what you want.

My personal opinion is one 115he will sound better than two unless you need more bass or more volume than one can produce. I suspect many will disagree with my opinion ;), but hopefully at least you understand the basis of my position.

Good morning! Thank you very much to all for the tips! Finally i bough another 115He, the first impression was very good but I have not tried it calmly yet, what I have verified is that I have to lower the bass volume not to sound too big! I' tell you!
