I'm quite happy with mine. I have used it for 3 or 4 years w/ DB and EB. I'd be interested to hear how yours works out. But the Wizzy 10 (plus an AI or Genz Benz Shuttle or EA Micro head) is about half the weight, smaller footprint, and from all reports has a sound that is maybe not as hefty but very, very effective.

Double Bass Another Amp and Cab?

I just got delivery of the Wizzy 10. It is so freakin tiny I can't believe it.
Hopefully I will be able to fire her open when I get home before my gig tonight.

I thought about it but I am playing an electric gig tonight, 4 horns, 4 singers and a tiny portable PA. We have to take a ferry to Fire Island.
BTW I paid $325 delivered to my door and it is in just about perfect condition.

Contrary to popular belief their are about a dozen or so communities on Fire Island only 2 of them are "alternative lifestyle". These gigs pay pretty well and many times the college girls or 30 somethings come right off the beach in a bikini top and a wrap, right into the bar to start dancing and drinking! Also a very popular spot for Bachelorette parties.
Back on Topic - I couldn't help but go home during lunch and fire up the Wizzy. 1st thought, HOLY B15 BATMAN! This thing reaches levels for it's size that I would not have imagined possible. I don't think it goes down to 35hz it seems to be cut off somewhere above that, although I am no expert just my opinion in the 45 minutes I spent jamming out during lunch. It also can take the Focus to about 2 o'clock without hesitation, above that it starts to break up in a bad way.
I am going to guess that the reason Toad doesn't like it for upright has to do with where it cuts out at the low end. I thought it sounded ok with the upright but it sounded like the HPF was set around 70 or 80 hz maybe higher. With the slab I thought it was really cool. To me it really does sound like a mini B15 in size only, volume wise I think it is comparable and you don't need a fork lift to load in.
I might in fact give it a shot on the gig tonight!

The fire island thing was an easy cheap shot. I don't doubt there is fantastic hetero tail strewn all about the beaches. I'm just jealous, cause there ain't no beach nowhere near my inland ass.
Two of the wizzy 10's does get more low end when paired together but it didn't sound as good to me as one by itself.

Yes very nice. I've mentioned I have a NL210 so 2 wizzys probably isn't necessary but it would be a cool vintage rig and I am sure it would get super loud.
Like I said tough gig tonight and I am bringing the Wizzy The nuts have been grown!
If this guy can have 4 girls in bikini think about what someone still living might get. (pulled those off the bars web site)

Wizzy combo arrived
Fired it up and tried it out against my other small combos
Louder than the PJB and a little louder than the GK
It is much brighter than my other amps
The EQ section and presets are very nice , can dial in alot of different sounds
Sounds good with the EUB both the pezo and mag pu , didnt try it yet with my UB , its kept at my main gig . The EUB sounds much more open compared to the PJB. The PJB sounds very compressed next to the Wizzy
The acoustic/Labella Black wrap is good but my fretted Turner Ren has Elixir strings on it and a little too clanky . I ordered some Status Black wrap
The Wizzy is loud enough to cause feedback with my acoustic basses . So I'll have to work on eq
As for electric basses it sounds good , not as tight as 2x10 and not as sloppy as 1x15 . I have 2 1x12 cabs(Avatar and Aguilar) and the WZ112 sounds fuller. Have to be careful not to boost the lows too much , it does start to fart out at high volumes.
Well have to get back and try out another 15 basses

Dig. Thanks for the update. The iAMP 200 head w/ a regular Wizzy 12 does seem to have a certain something when put together that I really like a lot. Warm and velvety, maybe a tad dark, but still with lots of precision in the mids. The downside is the weight of the Wizzy combo's exterior. It's the older EA resin coating finish, not the Nub-Tex. That stuff is super tough but makes the unit pretty heavy.
The PJB is very balanced , notes dont jump out
Volume is enough(3-6 person acoustic amplified band) but for outdoors shows doesnt push enough air The 2 top firing speaker are nice , and I put it right beside me and can really hear myself well. Because we use acoustic instruments , have to be careful with the front monitors and feed back. The PJB really is nice when I can hear myself
What I dont like about the PJB is it doesnt have a pre/post Di switch. Alot of places dont have a regular soundman , sometimes I need to quickly tweak.
My Wizzy was a shop demo unit so I guess its an older model
I carried it upstairs for our regular friday gig and it is heavier than the PJB but I can carry it one handed with a gigbag and a acoustic bass on my back.The PJB width and Wizzy depth are about the same. So carrying in narrow places is good.The UB sounded full and loud , didnt bring the Zoom H2 so not sure how well it projected to the back of the room. But everybody could feel and hear the bass. We usually only have the vocals on PA on Fridays. Still have to work on UB eq , mids were a little bit too much. Set it to countour1 . What are peoples setting with UB and the Iamp200/Wizzy12?
Oh and using the adjustor on the bottom of the cab really helps in cutting boominess
In comparing the GK400rb to the Wizzy
With Deep and countour1 switches it sounds very similar to the GK/Avatar . The Wizzy does have more happening in the high mids and top.
I still really want to try the Wizzy 10
I had sent mail to buy that $325 Wizzy-10
But finally decided to get the Combo-12 because I was afraid it wouldnt have the volume for outdoor shows

IME projection out into the room is one of the things that EA cabs handle extremely well. Other bass players who have heard my rig from across the room have confirmed this and commented on the clarity.
I bypass the EQ with my DB. [ Edit - I use an HPF-Pre high pass filter w/ it most often now. ] With EB I like the Contour I button, or even better a SansAmp BDDI in front.
