Another Amp Poll with a Difference

Apart from the new implementations of various PWM amps (class D, class T, digital etc) there have been no particular advancements in SS amp design. Designs have become refined with better components, modelling and design techniques, but the devices haven't become more linear, which is about the only place they can improve. It's much the same as the Chev V8; still the same basic design as 40 years ago, just refined to the nth degree.

I make the humble suggestion that [better] design techniques have more to do with how an amp sounds and feels than anything else. Apart from class D/SMPS products, the semiconductor devices themselves are not (and haven't been for a very long time) the limiting factor.

I must say I am a bit surprised that the Sadowsky SA200 has scored the highest so far. It's a shame the're not being built any more. Maybe they needed to give it more time or work out a more efficient way of manufacturing without comprimising tone and quality. I know it's hard. I noticed my beloved iamp800 didn't score high but I must say it serves my needs perfectly for tone and versatility - and it's good to see my WT800C put up a good showing even with all the bad feedback you read about Eden these days. It's also good to see the old GK work horse, still shows strong favouritism. (Geez- starting to sound like a Business Analyst).
I have to say my GAS for an IP or SA200 still hasn't dissipated. Will Battle On !

I'd be willing to bet that, of the 36 people that voted for the SA200, exactly none of them would be buying that amp in the next year. This doesn't diminish your poll results (you did ask for votes regardless of price), but Sadowsky as a company can hardly fire up production based on the fact that a lot of people want their amp. 36 people wanting an amp doesn't finance production. 36 people buying an amp will.

Mike v s is right. I voted for the SA200 but wouldn't buy one. Mainly becaouse it's too underpowered. But damn nice sound. I played a Koch amp( on which the SA200 is based or developed from ) and with it's 300 watt it was a really nice amp.
As stated in a previous post, i missed some other choices. It was just a matter choosing the one i liked the most. But given this threads choices i would pick the Sadowsky!
In the real world i'm happy with a big monster amp like Aguilar or Mesa or Ampeg. Just my taste.
