Another Amp Poll with a Difference

If you had only one choice which Amp would you take if money was no consideration ?

I selected the Sadowsky amp, but only because you don't have my real choice listed.....
Glockenklang Bass Art Classic - closest thing that they currently make to my older Glock HeartCore head.

Kinda difficult considering I haven't played enough of them to make a trully informed decision. Taking that into account, the two I have formed a solid opinion on are definitely out (I won't mention names as people tend to get offended easily here). I chose the Thunderfunk for the feature set/weight and likelihood that I would prefer its sound over the others given the volume of reviews that seem to align with my tastes.

That stated, I currently play a Peavey T-Max ($200) that I preferred over two of the amps on that list at any price. But tastes change over time, so who knows?

I voted Sadowsky SA200 just because they're out of production and a very limited quantity out there.

I don't understand the inclusion of the Berg IP's (since it is a power amp/speaker cab combination -- compared to the rest which are strictly bass heads), but if limited to one setup, that'd be my gigging choice (IP310, please with a PJB P-1 preamp).

Which one is most expensive, out of curiosity?

I would prob take that one and then trade down the list of most to least expensive as I have never tried any of them. That way I couldn't lose, and Icould find the amp I like. Just to be practical, The GK or TF , just from reviews, would prob fit better for what I play.

That's clever! But let's just fine tune the rules a little and say you aren't able to trade later on.

Also I've changed the Berg IP option and added (with any preamp of your choice).

Keep'em coming - very interesting comments.

A9X, what's the reason you like a separate preamp and power amp so much over a head? Are you one of those guys like Billy Sheehan who fell in love with a preamp they don't make anymore? Or do you like to run lots of giant speakers??

Isn't it funny that with all the advancements in solid state technology, the amp favored in this poll is an all-tube amp? If it wasn't for having to move them, Roger would still probably be making them ;)

I agree. Very interesting indeed. The purpose for this poll was just to see what sort of comments it would generate and what type of trend if any would show.

Lifey, I know there's probably a lot guys out there that haven't played all these amps but we all have had "GAS" at some stage in our bass playing lives. So that is what this poll is about. If you had a chance to grab just one amp out of that list for nothing (freebie) which one would it be. :)

cheers, keep'em coming.

I think it's because it's now hard to come by and rare and has the cache of the Sadowsky name; I wonder how many people actually used one more than a tryout in a shop. Living with a thing for a while is the only real way to know if it's for you.

Apart from the new implementations of various PWM amps (class D, class T, digital etc) there have been no particular advancements in SS amp design. Designs have become refined with better components, modelling and design techniques, but the devices haven't become more linear, which is about the only place they can improve. It's much the same as the Chev V8; still the same basic design as 40 years ago, just refined to the nth degree.
