Double Bass another bass build project

Well, I am no Arnold Schnitzer, but somehow, I still managed to complete my first bass. Here are some photos, for those, who are interested.

The learning curve was steep, thanks to Arnold, Matthew, Ken, and Ken Smith for lending their knowledge to this project.

Fun Facts:

1804 V. Panormo design from Peter Chandler plans.

1 5/8" overstand, 6 13/16" bridge hight, 42" string length. Easy to play.

Sound; blooms, and booms.

Coolest feature; ribs, back and neck, all made from local harvested cherry lumber.

Top; Sitka spruce.

Hours to complete; lost track a long time ago.

Here is a photo displaying the cherry ribs and neck:

Jake, your wish has been granted, here are some close up views.

The ribs all came from the same cherry plank, so the grain follows its self around the bass. The ribs are wide; 8 7/8" between plates. Finding wide lumber with straight grain, is extremely difficult. Ribs made from straight grain wood will be less likely to warp or crack.

The bridge is a temporary shop made "set up" bridge. It helps me determine the correct profile before I start cutting the more costly permanent bridge.
