Believe me it's just as bad live. Trust me on this!I agree, it's not as bad as I was expecting. The problem might be more apparent without the vocal processing on the recording.
it seems that singers doing that new fangled r+b somehow feel compelled to cram every note ever imagined by man or machine into each and every phrase they sing in some misguided michael bolton-ish addled attempt to be soulful

Me too. My standard of reference is hearing Whitney Houston singing the Star Spangled Banner at some sort of sporting event, back when she was on the A List

Yes. The drummer didn't even give a hint on her singing skills which leads me to believe they may be having something going on.So I take it you passed on the band because her singing skills suck?
