Another death in the family.

My uncle passed away about five months back and his wife, my aunt, just passed yesterday. My mom is planning on going to the funeral next week (it will be in Florida) but I've got plans for next weekend. Would it be too selfish to ask to not go? I don't see my presence there really benefiting anyone.

If your presence wouldn't be beneficial, I think it would be ok to not go. However, someone else might want you there, in which case your presence WOULD be beneficial. And just about anything can be rescheduled when there's a death involved.

Kwesi, first sorry about the passing of your aunt, and to respond, only you can answer that. If you are going to be ok with it then I see no problems, but sometimes we are not there for ourselves but to lend support to those that are not as able to cope at that time. Just something to consider. Do as your conscience dictates.

sorry as to be so callous as to say this, but your aunt has passed away, she won't care whether you are there or not.

the fact that you created this thread makes me think you would feel some guilt if you didn't. for that reason alone I suggest you go.

You know, if you had a relative who was an executor (or executrix) you'd have a wildly different view of the aftermath and burial of your relatives.

If you don't want to go just tell your family that you have other obligations that you can't miss but that you send your love and all the good thoughts in the world to those more directly impacted.

My condolences to you and your family.

If the situation were reversed, and you were dead would your aunt have felt compelled to drop stuff and head up to MD?

You really should go either way out of respect, but someday you're gonna be dead, and you're going to feel awfully silly if no one comes to your funeral.

I believe the word youre looking for is "executioner". Or not.

wrong again, Matt! You have about the same information as Kwesi.

An Executor is a person that sees to it that a person's will is acted out. They sell the furnishings, and contents of the house, and the house itself if the properties are not to be used further by anyone else, and on top of that add to the money inside the person's account they've set aside for when they passed, and distribute the money to all parties mentioned in the will.

Executor=man.
Executrix=woman.

You want a thrill? Try cleaning your 85 year old hoarder grand aunt's infested house and try to condition it to be sold. That was a two year project. 104 weekends straight.

In life we're given the option to pay others to do our dirty work or do the work ourselves. Figure out which is more honorable.

wrong again, Matt!

I wasnt sure if you meant executor or executioner. The word executrix should have tipped me off, had a known that a female executor is called an executrix. I done learned something fer tha day.

Read it this way, its fun!

yea well, it's a process that makes you appreciate the other side of life.

very dirty, very depressing, very labor intensive. Romance novels? got em! Old hardware? by the bucket loads! Mason jars? Sure! Old hazardous chemicals? OH BOY! five foot tall Pyramid made of toilet paper rolls? party's there woo hoo! :scowl:
