I'm planning to get a UL902, maybe the 502, and am looking at the UL410. My worry is that after reading some current threads I won't be happy with the low end output of the UL series cabs. I have the ability to try a UL310 but not the 410. I like a lowmid sort of tone that is clear but warm. Some have suggested the UL212. How does it compare to the 10" loaded cabs? I've PM'd a few people asking for help and hope to hear from others. Also, to those with experience on both the 502 and 902, does the 502 have a nicer lowend and sound a too much different than the 902. Any opinions on the EPI UL gear would be appreciated.

Another Epifain UL Question

I tried out a UL310 and 212NYC recently and this is what i thought.
First time i had the UL310 sitting on top of the 212 and so i felt it sounded quite thin compared to the 212. I Realised this after i had left the shop so i did go and try a UL310 sitting on the floor. It sounded much better. But i really loved the 212 sound.
I ended up getting a UL212 and it is indeed a thick sounding cab. I think i preferd the212NYC's lower end but not the weight. The UL212 is very warm and round but with the tweeter up it can be very bright if you want it. It seems to have a very nice bottom end but to my ears the lower mids are very full on so its nice and punchy.
This is my first 2x12 cab so take this with a pinch of salt. And this is based on using all the cabs with MB heads. With my GK head i thought the UL212 sounded a bit clearer but also thinner.

Just wanted to add my UL115 is very full range sounding and i use it as a stand alone (or at least did until i got the UL212) and i could almost fill a medium sized club with it.

I've noticed the same thing with my 310UL...it doesn't have nearly as much low end when elevated off the floor. But if you have it on the floor (or tilted back with only the front castors on) there's PLENTY of low end there!
Yes, although it was somewhere else i could hear a big difference in low end.
In the end though i just dont like 10's so didnt get it (although with the problems i have with my UL212 i wish i had)

Is the Series 2 signifigantly better, or will the Series 1 do the same job for a 4 stringer?

I have a 502 and a ul2x10 and ul1x15. awesome!! I usually just use the 2x10. Kills!! I have a 3x10 and that killed, too. Dont over analyze it. I little eq on your bass or amp and these cabs just sing. Ive found the 502 to be plenty of power. Ive never turned it up over 10 o'clock. We always have PA support. Id consider a modular setup. A 502 with two 8ohm cabs. Its easy to lug around and will rip your head off. Dont hesitate

Hi Peter,
I've heard people say that the 410UL doesn't have a lot of low end but it's really a misconception. That cab has plenty of low end. I think the mids fool people into thinking the bottom is thin but in reality it really is all there.

My problem with the UL410 is that it has either too much low end, not enough low midrange, or both. Also, its prominent high mid peak doesn't work for me. I can get it to sound OK for me, but only if I tweak EQ the right way and keep the tone squeaky clean.
The cab almost reminds me of a typical fifteen: in the showroom it sounds huge, but at the gig there's not enough punch or note definition.
This is personal preference, and as always YMMV. Plenty of people like the UL cabs for rehearsal and gigging.
I agree completely about the prominent high mids. And completely disagree about the lack of punch and note definition. I would have said punch and articulation are two of the ul410's strongest traits. Amazing how different opinions can be regarding the same piece of gear. As you say Fuzz, ymmv. There's no substitute for trying something yourself.
ps Just a thought Fuzz, maybe it's worth checking with a 9v battery that all your speakers are wired in phase?
