In the John P. Kee Clap Your Hands Vid. Maurice Fitzgerald appears to be playing the same Bass and it still sounds good.

I had a kind of a champagne green one about fifteen years ago, loved the neck, string spacing and body. It was my first Fender 5er and I ended up cycling it through the herd. I still have the stock pups if anyone is interested.

Thanks! Those are actually the stock Fender tuners which in this era are partially made from plastic (weird) but it balances perfectly.

Great video! I guess it is the curse of Fender that so many fall in love with their basses once they have been discontinued.

Honestly its super light weight (8.5 lbs) and plays/sounds great. What's not to like? I definitely like these electronics/pickups better than later models. Sounds beefier and more musical to me. I'm not a huge fan of the dinky J size though. I like the full J body. I do like the extra frets though...

I changed the tuners on my 97.
Other than that no mods required.

The Fender Suhrs have a unique tone and are very musical as you stated.
