Hello TB,
I’ve been a member for a while but never officially said hello. I have some background in percussion, mandolin and for the last 20 years, the ukulele. I bought a bass to take to uke group meetings so hopefully someone would play it and give our ukes some bottom end. I only took it to 1 or 2 meetings, then I starting playing around on it myself. It’s a 34” scale so it was a big stretch for me, so to ease into it, I tried a U-bass and it was easier to fret and a lot of fun. I also acquired a couple of mini-basses from @KohanMike and they started feeding a growing addiction. I’m primarily self-taught but I went through the Bassbuzz B2B course and I’m learning from multiple sources on Youtube. But now I’d like to find a local instructor to help me fill in the blanks.
With all that said, the ukulele has been a passion for years but the fretting was causing the arthritis in my hand to get pretty painful after playing. It turns out that all the stretching I do while fretting on the larger scale bass has really helped with the arthritis pain. It’s not gone but it’s much better. I’m now hooked and feel like a kid starting all over again. And while I’m pretty late to the party at the low end, I’m happy to be here.
