Another Lame Craigslist Bassist Wanted

Yeah, I'll clarify. I don't mean to offend, but excuse me for not thinking the best of these guys. You said yourself there are some kids who mooch of their parents. These guys seem entitled enough to be some of them. I'm not undermining anything you have done. Don't take it personally.

I'm 24, and I'd play with a talented 17 year old in a heartbeat with no additional criteria then I would have over any other members. My current bandmates are all at least 5 years older than me.

Maybe I'm just bitter my Eden didn't qualify.

Considering that most 17-year-olds, let alone college kids I knew sponged off their parents (lavishly, at that), that's not something you really should take offense to. You should have pride in yourself for being an exceptional person. My brother was the same way, and I was too (I was expected to go to college, and wanted to). As for the other kids, I wasn't offended by their behavior, either. I was amused by it. My best friend in college was a brilliant mathematician whose mommy and daddy gave her everything. And what she couldn't get from them she shoplifted. Some people just hate the idea of work so much that they won't do it until they find something they like doing.

What should offend you is that so many of your peers behave in ways to create & perpetuate such a stereotype. Setting a good example is a start. Use your influence as much as possible. Grow a thick skin.

Thank you, sorry if I jumped the gun a bit but I have been used to being lumped into the group with those future low-lifes so I didn't quite fully understand what you meant. Thanks for the explanation. :cool:

P.S. Get rid of your cheap Eden and get some TOP QUALITY Madison. :p

Very good points. Some people just truly amaze me at how...trashy they can be. Especially to sink to the level of stealing, I don't believe there is anything below that...

We need some people to show kids that they didn't get their nice cars, basses, and houses by just mooching off of their parents and/or looking goofy on a t.v. show. Why aren't there any shows showing all of the hard work and absolute HELL the people with those things had to go through in order to get them?

I just wait until the "real world" hits them when their parents no longer give them everything, I imagine they will learn very quick. :eek:

I love this forum, although there are misunderstandings everyone is always open minded and willing to explain anything that wasn't completely understood. I hope this forum keeps up as it has been. It really is a wonderful place.

Seriously though, I've known a lot of people my age that have expensive gear that they haven't had to earn and that play like 3, maybe 4, of the same songs over and over again on it and never really learn anything new.

It really bothers me, though, when I see a someone who is younger (Like a student of mine or someone else) who is working hard and using what they have, but all they have access to is a cheap $90 guitar and a crappy practice amp, while some kid who is slightly older (maybe not even) has learned a few licks (poorly) from some song everyone knows, and has used that to get their parents to give them tonnes of gear.

The saddest thing is that, most of the time, that gear ends up getting left behind as soon as they get bored because they weren't serious about music in the first place, they just wanted to look cool.

But:
You don't seem like that. There are lots of people who are like that, and you aren't one of them.

I know that I'm only 19, so I really don't have as much of a platform to stand on. The first real amp setup I got was after my first year in post-sec music that my parents helped to pay for.
