if I have an 8 ohm head can I run two four ohm speakers? if so series or parallel? thanks!
Why no? Two 4 ohm speakers wired in series is an 8 ohm total load.
Because if the OP understood how to wire a series cable, he wouldnt be asking this question.
I see. Oddly I was not born with the knowledge either, so I asked questions and studied. The long way around I guess?![]()
yeah, but you gotta admit, the "ohms" thread sticky is vast, and likely confusing and intimidating to the newbie; the first link (which has hidden in it the answers to the OP's question) gives us a wall of text to start and has 40 more freakin' pages!Eh. Stickies are at the top of the forum. If he scrolled right past them with out poking his head inside, then my response is a "no". Safer for him in the long run.

there needs to be a real "for dummies" section with short, pithy answers to these questions. something like:
[noob]hey @Hwegs7, the cab can't be lower ohms than the head, but is totally fine if it's higher.
more than one cab doesn't add, it sort of "divides"; two 8 ohm cabs together gives you 4, two 4 ohm cabs together gives you 2.
doesn't matter how you plug them in or jump them together, all the speaker jacks in the amp and the cabs are in "parallel", so they're sort of all the same.
so if your head says "4 ohms minimum" like most do, you can plug in one 4 ohm cab or two 8 ohm cabs. [/noob]
...
yes, there's a bunch more stuff to know, about bridging, series connections, stereo amps, unbalanced loads, all that.
in that context, "no" is pretty much the right answer.Sure. And since the thread is past what some people want to read, I answer "no".
