I put the Labella 760FHBBs on and WOW, what a difference from the roundwounds that were on it. And I can even practice "properly" without an amp.
How do you tweak the intonation on these lovelys?
It's only a smidge flat across the board at the 12th, but....

I have a black Brice Beatle Bass copy that I put SIT Power Flats on. That little bass really kicks butt now! It might be a one trick pony, but I can use that one trick quite a lot! I used to have a real Hofner years ago, and this cheap little Brice has it beat. The solid block inside the Brice, plus the SIT's, really makes a difference in the sound. It makes me want to try out a Hofner CT Beatle Bass.

I'd like to get some of those pearloid knobs for my Brice. Which ones do I get specifically? And does anyone know if the Hofner teacup knobs will fit the Brice? I'd like to dress her up a little bit.

Use a marker to make a small dot where the bridge is now. Loosen the strings. Move the bridge just a smidge toward the neck. Tune it up. Check the intonation. Repeat as necessary. If it goes sharp, move it back a smidge. If one side is ok but the other side isn't, just move one side.

From now on, I'll shopping at Sam Ash! Today I called around town lookin' for a "someone order them and didn't pick them up" set of Labella (copy/paste) 760FHBB 50 65 80 100
All the Mom-n-Pops said "No", and the local GC let me talk to 3 people before I got someone to give a model number to, since noone knew "beatle bass" nor "labella". Nothin'! Then I called Sam Ash. I was told by a VERY knowledgable person they didn't have it local, but they had it on the website. Not on the website, so I called the 800 number. It wasn't in their new system. I got both sets for almost 1/2 price each with free freight!

Oh, BTW, the SA is right across the street from GC.

SA = 3131 Capital Blvd
GC = 3100 Capital Blvd

I like the 760FHBB 50 65 80 100. They get a good full thump with punch. It seems the heavier gauge really helps the bridge and top vibrate to help the tone. You can feel a good vibration from the back of the bass when playing.

I use 50-70-85-105 SIT Power flats on my Brice and the heavier the G and D strings are, the better the bass sounds. The E and the A can be lighter, depending on the player's preferences, these basses have plenty of boom on the bottom. You feel the notes from each string with the heavier guage better though IMHO.

I just took a close look at the volume knobs on the Hofner CT bass, and they look identical to the knobs on my Brice. So if the teacups fit the CT, they should fit the Brice too I'm thinking.

I got one made in Korea about 8 years ago. I really wish I could like it, but I don't. It sounds like a toy compared to my Gibson EB-O. It is light and convenient to play, though.
