The kids were described as "funny" and "athletic"; they didn't fit the typical "loner, anti-social" school shooter profile. Scary and sad.

Well, it said that it would be 11 year anniversary of Columbine.
But, why 11 years? If they planned it for that.

I'm assuming they planned it to be the 11th year becuase no one would expect it. As with most school shootings, there unexpected. So one would try to make it as unexpected as possible. As for the 11th year anniversary of columbine, well, I think we ca all figure that one out.

Back to your regularly scheduled discussion. Yeah, I caught that it was the 11th anniversary of Columbine. That's mentioned in the article after all. What strikes me as odd is a school shooting plot planned that far into the future. It just doesn't make sense to me from any angle.

Weird how schools being gun free zones don't seem to stop nut-jobs like this. Maybe they didn't know. We should pass laws to put up bigger "Gun Free Zone" signs at schools and post offices.

Why not make it 10 years? 10 is a prettier number, but then again 2009 is ugly. Also, what kind of teens are that patient? 2 and a half years...I can barely wait 2 weeks

I would explain the logic to something like this, but I'm afraid I'd be viewed as a columbine idolizer. But there is logic to it.

No, I don't think there is. A couple of kids feel so horribly about their lives and hate everyone around them so much that they are going to go on a killing spree - but not for two and a half years? Many of the students and some of the teachers won't even be there at that time. Their lives and their outlooks will have changed dramatically in the meantime.

I suppose looking for logic from any of these murder/suicide plots is a lost cause in the first place, but this one is especially odd to me. Why would the date even matter? Then again, SF city officials stopped publishing the statistics when the number of people who committed suicide jumping off the Golden Gate bridge neared 1000. I'll never understand people.
