Hiss comes from the electronics in your AMP or your BASS not from the tweeter! It's just that if there's hiss a tweeter will expose it because it can reproduce those higher frequencies.

Now I do think some tweeters are smoother sounding than others but that has nothing to do with hiss.

Because when I play my bass through the Aguilar I need to attenuate the tweeter to bring down the hiss, whereas on my EA CXL110, there's very little hiss even with the tweeter up. Some cabs seem to bring out the hiss of a bass more than others. I'm not sure about the physics of it, but it happens.

May I humbly suggest:

If you have the chance, try an AccuGroove Tri-112L.
Myself I live in Norway, and the music equipment retailers here don't carry modern high-end stuff (they only have SWR, Ampeg, Fender and Hartke, basically) and so I've never been able to compare my Tri-112L to any of those you mentioned, but it sounds marvellous! And it is very light weight as well (Neodymium magnets) - I carry my amp (Eden WT800) in one hand and the speaker in the other.

So, if you have the chance, try it out. Remember though, that the AccuGroove cabs are designed to have a flat frequency response and thus may not have as much color in the sound as most others. But with this cab, tweaking the EQ on my Eden amp is soo much fun!

(and no, I don't work for AccuGroove (but I wish I did! What fun!))

i dont dig dissimilar cabs. i've tried, and IMHO, the sounds are too dispersed and not focused enough for me.

but hey, why not an Acme B-2? would sound amazing with the EUB.

i kinda steered away from 12" speakers only cause, they were never punchy enough with the groups i play. but if you got moolah, try a pair of Epifani 112's. IMHO, one of THE PUNCHIEST 1x12's out there. no joke. right behind them are EA's CXL112, which hit you with a slightly lower tuned punch vs. the lower mid punch of the Epi's. another great sound.

i like the aggies, but find the midrange a little too sucked in. but if you've got sadowsky gear anywhere in your tonal chain, they go together like bread and butter.

the eden's i tried were cool, but for some odd reason didnt have enough natural bottom end with my AI Focus head.

and while i did try an Accu Tri112 and 110 at the recent bass player live conference, well... you know how those go... :rolleyes: but i'm trying to find time to head out to JoeyG's for a proper test run.

aight, guys, thanks for the all the help.

just called Basscentral and ordered an Aggie GS 112 and an Eden D112XLT!!!! :D

I'm sure that combo will kick my Avatar's arse! Now i need to sell some gear and pedals to fund a new iAmp 800! ;)

it's has low end and top end - i little shy in the mids, but that is
what my EQ is for - bottom line - they are very light (for my back) and sound
like a million bucks. i am very, very happy!

Congrats, NJL.

On the dissimilar cab tip, I've gotten excellent results running Bag End 1-15 cabs with non-BE 1-12s. The S15-D with my 1-12 Nahas is a killer combination and the cabs together weigh less than 80 lb. And the beauty of it is it sounds like a single sound source. Throw in the efficiency of this setup and it's almost too good to be true.

For a small versatile setup that could be run as one cab or two I'd go with the coax version of the S15-D which has sounded amazing live with my fours, fives and sixes and put a nice single 12 on top. My Nahas 12 is still the best I've heard in this setup but I'm sure some others will do in a pinch.

Portability:D

I have a lot of cabs that I no longer need because I'm down to using one of two setups... the coax Bag End by itself or a Nahas 1-15/1-12 rig. I can go to my Bag End gigs in my Miata;)

I just couldn't believe the diff in my avatar and my new set up - i'm my warwick/magnus krempel, the B string is sooooo alive!!! it's so alive that i'm not going to just use my 4 stringer as my main bass anymore....back to my 6!!!! :D

I've never had the opportunity to hear the Nahas speakers so I can't comment. I will say that I use a bag end S15-D and S12-D together and the sound is nothing short of phenomenal, and is better than two of either cab. The S12 with the coax version of the S15 sounds even better. Both combo's sound like a single coherent point source. I think the aggie is a good cab as well. I had one and paired it with my 12 or 15 BE cabs, but the BE cabs overpowered it volume wise as well as filling in the mids. Would i hesitate to use two aggie 12's? No, as long as had a decent amount of power and a good midrange eq. either way, you have a miata ready stack. ;)

no, but check this out....

knowing that it wouldn't be as loud, what i did was ask mrs. santa claus for a stand to put my cabs on.....well guess what i got? :D what i do is stack the eden below the aggie (both on the stand) - the aggie's center mass is just above my ear line. i really don't have to play that all loud (seems very loud to my ear :D ). with the 410, since it was playing to my knees, i had to crank it (1400 watt SS amp)... FoH eng's used to hate me :D not any more :)

btw, the new cabs sound way better than the avatar :)
