Any amplitube users?

Hey guys just curious if their are any amplitube users here?
If so what kind of settings are you using?
I have just a minimal interface setup for practice and demo purposes. I use a lexicon alpha with presonus studio one ezdrummer 2 and amplitube. I don't own any monitors and using a set of beyer dynamic headphones and can't seem to get any decent tones.
Looking for some info, help, and advice...

One thing you can try is running Amplitube standalone, outside of Studio One
This eliminates one variable.

Or just record your track raw in Studioi One without Amplitube, then add amplitube on the playback as you adjust settings, and pedals. When you're not focused on playing you can hear the bass and nuances better. Always adjust in a mix with drums and backing tracks as solo will often have some nuances that you won't hear in a mix..

I think IK Tonex is still on sale. This works with Amplitube to give you many famous captured heads (Think Kemper). IK will have a Tonex pedal out in a few days also.

Not looking to go in circles here, but I too had the Lexicon Alpha.
I had a difficult time getting a good tone. Went through all the Trials and Free Plugins I could get my hands on.
Not until I switched out my interface was I able to easily get a usable tone.
I'm not saying I couldn't make it sound good. It took a lot of work, but since the new interface, EQ Comp Room or Tape if needed... to get where I need to be.
I'm not knocking the $20 Alpha. I used it for a year or more. Switching to higher quality or more modern basic interface was an huge improvement. Finger playing sound like leather, pick playing like pick playing.

I think most interfaces are trying to pass the audio uncolored as is, to the Daw. Its possible mine was defective, but i think you'd have to try pretty hard to get a bad tone out of Amplitube.

I know you'll get tons of great advice on settings to try from the TB Members.

I only tried the free version of Amplitube (on guitar), and really didn't get that far into it. The free version is very limited, but I couldn't find a sound I liked.

I received a copy of Bias FX 2 (Positive Grid sent it to me as a gift), and I'm thrilled with it. Both bass and guitar tones are stellar.

Q1 Answer: Yes. I used V4 for years and have recently upgraded to V5. Along with Amplitube I use two other Virtual Instruments (VIs) fairly regularly; I also use EZ Drummer 3 and Halion Sonic. They are resource intensive so be careful on how you instantiate these things. I use Pro Tools Studio 22. I have a decent interface.

A cheap interface, or an iPhone or iPad, or a stock PC/Mac internal sound card are only going to get you so far.

Q2 Answer: That is a really broad question. You need to tweak the plugin to get the results you want. That is pretty much true for any plugin. If you don't have good monitors I think you will have problems getting your sounds right. Good headphones are ok, but you are better off with them and a good set of monitors. I use Amplitube for both bass and guitar. There are a lot of setting to look at. You have a signal level in and a signal level out. They need to be carefully monitored. Then there all the tone controls, speaker cabinet selection, signal chain. It is not a simple plug and play V.I. (of course you can plug and play, but YMMV). You get out of a system what you put into it. This goes for all V.I.s

Practice and experiment.

I am going to be upgrading to a new interface soon and getting some monitors. Takes a min to save and buy anything these days. Still learning with presonus and amplitube. Its more convenient to use the computer to play. I would love to set my gear up but super afraid of my 8 year old sticking pencils or anything else that will bust speakers so i am def not looking to ruin my swr cab haha .

Once i get things upgraded i think it will be a lot more promising and ear friendly lol

I use Amplitube 4 as a plug-in with Ableton Live and an Axe I/O interface. Cheap Sterling monitors-pretty good for the price though.

I always have to play with the settings on the "amp" a lot in Amplitube. I use very few effects (occasionally a compressor, every once in a while a chorus) And the settings change if I change basses. Generally, I find myself boosting mids way up, treble fairly high, and bass less that I would in other situations. I can get a tone I'm happy with for recording. But a lot is dependent on the variables Basslice mentioned above. And obviously your own preferences as to what is a "good tone".

And it works as a single instrument input audio interface with 2 outs.
That's not a bad price considering you can use it live and in the studio. Capture your own amps to leave them in the studio, and use the Tonex pedal to FOH for live.

I've been looking at a few I don't need anything spectacular. Focusrite 8 channel and the presonus interface are the 2 I've been looking at. I don't have a treated room either. I just demo songs a write and share with some friends. I'd love to have the money to build a nice little studio but I'm just a not so fortunate white trash construction worker (lol)

I really would love to have the money to build me a little studio and have some decent ass gear but unless i luck up on a scratcher or hit the Powerball i am just going to have to keep trying to save money for some cheaper stuff..

anyway to answer your question about settings (ignore the pedals, they are for guitar):

8 channel? How many inputs do you really need?

I have several different headphones. Sennheiser hd598 are my favorite for comfort. But I would be perfectly fine playing with the KZ ZS 10 in ear buds. I would imagine that any name brand recording headphone would work alright for you.

I jave the ampeg, fender, and orange stuff. My amplitube setup is either a fender bassman or ampeg rig.
My actual bass rig that i have is ampeg head, swr goliath Sr. Sometimes if I don't want to lug that big ass cab around inhave a 410 avatar bass cab that sounds pretty good.

Amplitube 5 user here (mostly for guitar, not bass). Use the brainworx Ampeg VST for bass.

Some of the stock settings are interesting but usually need to tweak them for whatever guitar I happen to be playing. What works for my Gretsch 6120 doesn’t work for my LP Junior or Tele. And vice versa.

I’ll start with a stock patch, adjust as necessary and save that as a custom patch. I’ve got about a dozen of those depending on guitar, clean or dirty, lots of presence or dry. Then add in FX depending on what I’m doing. Works well for me.

To be completely honest... Most everything you hear recorded nowadays has sampled drums at least reinforcing the "real things." The best thing to record drums at home nowadays is a good kit that can do USB midi. Load your kit in EZ Drummer and play it on the electronic kit. You get the natural velocity and tempo variations of a real drummer with the much cleaner sampled sounds. Unless you've got access to a damn good kit, in a damn good room, some damn good mics, and a damn good drummer you'll have a VERY HARD time getting better sounds micing a kit.

I'll have to look for them, but I've literally hit a desk with sticks and sidechained a gate on it to trigger samples and used that on demo tracks where we were low on gear but high on ideas.
