Any amplitube users?

I've started using Amplitube V5, I'm really liking it for tracking at home. Mostly using the Hiwatt DR103 sim as a head, or the Acoustic 360 or Sunn 1200s, but then using Dr Bonkers Cab IRs, as I generally found the cabs in Amplitube to be overly dark. The 360 cab is useful if you pair it with another cab IR, something with more high end.

It came with my SO’s 1K Multimedia iRig Stomp I/O which she bought primarily to be a MIDI controller.

We both gave it a try. Neither one of us were super impressed with the AmpliTube for the most part. But we have other tools and modelers to compare it to so that probably has a lot to do with it.

The good points: It’s a pretty complete package and a decent enough app if you’re just starting out, or aren’t into doing a deep dive into IRs and modeling just yet. And it does come bundled with a lot of hardware and some of the new smart amps. So that’s a plus if you’re on a budget. And who isn’t on a gear budget these days?

Downsides: it can get expensive relatively quickly because you’ll need to purchase many add-ons you’re probably going to want separately. For a home recording project it’s perfectly fine. But I don’t personally think the sonic quality is good enough to do professional level recording with. At least with the version (I think it was 4) we received. Keep in mind that’s just my own tuppence and worth exactly that.

tl:dr - If you can get it bundled with something then give it a go. It ain’t bad. However, if you have to purchase it I think there are better options to consider.

Just got this crazy deal on Amplitude 5 MAX (79$ CAD). Been fiddling around with it the last couple of days. Fender P bass AP 2 -> evo4 -> macbook - Ableton - Amplitube plug-in -> AT mx50.

Sounds amazing to me thus far. Big fat full and punchy.

On the other hand I could not stand my HX Stomp / Helix Native setup. I think someone described it in another post as some kind of bad sounding fart…. Anyways that’s unfortunate because on paper it was a great concept.
