Any bada** looking jazz basses around?

Perfect. Understated flash! Almost 60 likes, I think you won. What is it?

Fender American Special Sandblasted Edition. They were a limited run with only a few made in blue and red. I have a blue Sandblasted Precision as well. Great players, sound good and are easy on the back and shoulder. My Jazz is close to 7.5lbs according to the bathroom scale and my Precision a nice even 8lbs. Bodies are made of swamp ash and etched via a sandblast process. If you can find one get it.

I like the look of this one. What is it?

It's my own design/build based on an '85 Fender Performer called the Supersonic.

I just googled it.... I thought it might be a GC special. Indeed it is. I have the GC hand rubbed oil in amber. I couldn't tell from specs (says urethane finish) and your pic- it there a coat of poly over the bass after the sandblasting? How much did they go for? The price is removed as no longer available. I doubt anybody is selling theirs!

It was sold worldwide. I got both of mine from two different chains here in Canada. There is a satin finish on the bass and it would seem to be a reasonably thin coat because you can easily feel the grain of the wood. I like to tell myself that the thinner finish saves a pound of weight compared to the thicker poly finishes of my other Fenders :)

Very well done! I thought it might be Performer inspired but didn't realize it was your own design. The Performer has always fascinated me. I always wanted to try one.

:) Thanks! I had one recently (just sold to a fellow tb'r) and enjoyed it very much. The thin 24 fret neck proved very nice to play - the nut-end was very Jazz bass feeling and because the butt-end wasn't as flared as a standard J neck it was fast but easy to adjust to. I think that aspect was geared to a player who would solo in the higher register. The pu's were voiced to favor that as well. Mine has a more standard J like profile. (wider at the butt-end)

I have what I believe to be the prototype Performer. It has the angular bridge with fine tuners and has no serial number.

Wow Bob Wow! (one of them anyway!) Years ago a CAR one with a black pg and that cool angled Schaller bridge was on eBay. They said it was an '83 prototype. There is also a pink one with a standard Fender hs. The production Performer bridge was only made for that bass for only one year (June '85- June '86) and that Schaller is even more rare! I can't tell from the lighting of your pic, but is there no "Fender" stamp on the pu's? (and no "F" on the knob-top?)

Yes The pickups and knobs have the logos. They are just white.

…and one that still pumps up my GAS.

Fender Japan "The Ventures" Signature Jazz (you can't much of the grain in the pic, but that's Transparent Black over an ash body drool)

I still lament having to give up that "All-Black" JB62, even more than having to pass on one of those "Ventures" Jazzes that was lingering for a while on Ishibashi's U-BOX site. :banghead: But to fill a bit of the void left behind by those losses, I'm slowly working on my own all-black parts-bass. The big question is, "Do I leave it all-black or do I bling it up with some Ventures-style gold hardware?"

All black, please...or chrome. Not a fan of the gold hardware. (Not that my tastes should influence your decision.)
Also, what year is your export Aerodyne? I just picked up an early model with the straight (non-Strat) jack.
