Any complete flatwound converts?

I used to be a total flatwound guy. Now about half my basses sport rounds, but my main bass is strung with Rotosound Trubass 88s.

Damn, what style of music is your focus? Although I really love the sound and feel of RS88s they just don't sound right with the band I'm presently playing with. I would be as happy as a kid in the candy store if I were playing in an R&B group that does old school MoTown type stuff and my main bass could be a P with TruBass strings. Guess I'll just have to settle for Chromes on my ATK and Squier P bass for now.

and I don't appreciate rounds anymore. Has this happened to anyone else?

I used to love rounds for many, many years. I hated 'traditional' tone and was more into the lively, funky world of zing. I used to play with a pick.

As my tastes matured... I was really struggling to get the sound I heard in my head. Swapped basses, amps, everything to no avail. Close but still too aggressive.

One day I couldn't find my pick and decided I shouldn't really need one. I started the conversion to finger player which was a good few steps back in my skill levels. However, I got better and learnt that I have much better control over the sound coming out so I figured this was the way to go.

The sound still had some unwelcome high end though. Next stop. Flats.

Now we're talking.

I still have a bass strung with rounds and it's ok for a quick half hour but I like bass to sound like classic bass if you know what I mean.

I think my time with rounds has been and gone so yes, it has happened to me.

I play everything. Through my current live set up it cuts through any mix.

Currently its my Fender P with the Trubass through a Mesa Boogie 400+ and an SVT215E cabinet. I just set the amp flat.

I usually play blues, motown, and jazz, but lately I've been doing a lot of alt rock kinda stuff as well as recording a lot of hip hop, neo-soul, and new R&B tracks with it.

It always works.

Wow my tonal preferences have changed, I now have rounds on both my P and J Basses. I am using nickels because I love that warm tone, but I just like the feel and responsiveness of rounds. If I get another J or P there will be flats on that for sure.
