Any Experience with Ultra Compact PAs?

I found this thread on a search, so I figured I'd bump a zombie thread to share my conclusion....

I decided to go with a Yamaha DXR10. I'm very happy with the speaker. It sounds nice, and has a decent amount of coverage and frequency range. I mount it on a pole for my smaller gigs, and use it as a floor monitor for larger gigs. I use it with a little Behringer Xenyx mixer that I carry in a backpack. I can do a one trip load-in for an acoustic gig, and still use the components for a larger gig if needed.

It's not as 'slick' as some other options, but I really like the sound and flexibility of this route.

I often gig 2 grand auditorium or dreadnought guitars plus my bass and three voices in a single K10 on a pole. Sorry about the pole but it really is necessary most places. We drive either with my pancake mix or a Mackie 406 under cramped conditions. Works great. If the volume is coffee house, wine bar, lounge, we'll put the speaker behind us. Louder ant it will go out front and my other K10 or a Mackie Thump 12 faces back as monitor. And bigger than that it's K10's on K sub and pole. Up to 4 Thumps facing back.

Nice scalable system. One thing I really like is thT issounds preetymuchthesame regardless of config. At least from 65 hz up.

Yes I do miss the sub 65 hz signal in my bass but not enough to let it get in the way of the opportunity to play for an appreciative, affluent crowd. It's a mercenary thing ya know ?

Been thinking about adding a K 8 i would use it as center fill on loud gigs or the single main on the smallest.

A country band I was in back in the late 70's/early 80's used the original Peavey "Triflex" speaker system. There were two 8" with tweeter satellites, and a 2X12 sub. The satellites fit into the sub ports for transport.

I loved the system.

I am building myself a compact system, using four 5" full range drivers in each of two column cabinets, along with a 12" sub. I will likely cross them over around 150Hz or so. If I really like it, I will probably make two more columns and stack them on each side of the stage (8 5" speakers a side.) I will make the little columns stackable so I could even cop a Bose L1 type vibe.

Should be fun.
