Any hypermilers? And busting myths.

My suggestion for hypermilers is this: Compute the effect of each improvement in gallons per mile, rather than miles per gallon. Also, compute the number of gallons that you save per day, and compare the improvements to the effect of changing other habits such as how many miles you drive per day.

I am guessing that the results might change your cost-benefit analysis for some of the modifications that you are considering.

Hi.

What IS a hypermiler?

Someone who risks life, limb, and quite a few other people's lives just to squeeze the most mileage possible out of their car, typically spending stupid amounts of money on modifications to their cars that are supposed to increase their economy.

^Well said, and spot on.

Wrong on all accounts.

On a side note I realized the reason I enjoy hypermiling is the technology that comes from it and the effect on current/future vehicles

LOL.

As soon as You also realize that people were trying to increase the miles/gallon -or decrease the L/100Km over here- roughly a hundred years before medium-miling, super-miling and the latest fad, hyper-miling was even invented, you may see another perspective.

I was trying to avoid pulling the "age-card", but I was learning and practising SAFE ways for economical driving well before You were born. And the first people who would be considered "hypermilers" today, had been pushing daisies for decades before I was born. Some were probably just as clueless as some of the hypermilers today though, and were killed in some needless traffic accidents they caused.

I'm not going through this again.

Now that's no surprise, as it wasn't a discussion You were after with this thread, it was arguing about something you obviously have a lot to learn about.

There's tons of accurate information on the subject of increasing efficiency on vehicles, on both mechanical and aerodynamical POW, datin' way back before it became a mainstream hobby of the environmentalists.

While I find Your arguing about the passion You have for hypermiling entertaining and fun to read, I do urge You to educate yourself just a tad further.

Regards
Sam
