Any hypermilers? And busting myths.

I'll take the bait and say that the banking and loan industries have driven up the rates of colleges automobiles and houses. Spread something out over a long enough period of time and the difference is negligible.

Huh? Do you mean interest rates, because if that's the case they are very low right now for both homes and cars. And the banks have zero influence on what the market price is for used cars. Prices are high for one reason: there's a shortage of newer used cars in the market, and that's it.

Omg....

It's called easy money. Think about it.

hypermiling is a good concept in a way.

some of it appears to be questionable

otherwise some good could be brought from it.
nothing new that is already known. Making a small super light
gas friendly car. Is just unfortunately not appealing to buyers.

But to people that are interested in hypermiling

sometimes you reach a brick wall with what you can do with a pre engineered car. Seems like hypermiling would be more effective if you somehow make a better mileage car.

Basic maintenance is also the obvious.
Doing some research on converting gas cars to electric.

When converting older cars to electric, basic wheel alignment
was a big factor. People do a conversion and find they get horrible
range with the battery used.
Later to find after a basic wheel alignment to gain 20 to 30% more range.

might not have been a big deal as a gas car and gets ignored.
but as a gas car it should effect mileage.

New cars are cheaper now than they were two years ago when my wife bought her car. On that same note, my same car (2002 Mazda) is the same price used right now as it was when I bought it two years ago. Yeah, we both had to buy cars within a month of each other.

Don't make such broad generalizations. I looked up 4 vehicles prices from now to 2 years ago they were equal or more.

And yours in trolling?

I don't offer any insight into this thread because it doesn't pertain to me in anyway since I think hypermilers are just another form of min/maxers, which are essentially nerds who feel like they've got to be awesome at something to make up for being bad at other stuff. It also seems like a **** measuring competition to me. I am just amazed at how you readily dismiss information from people because it disagrees with what you supposedly "know".

If you want examples, go back a few pages where you responded to a complete breakdown of your argument with "Your wrong."

P.S. It pained me to not write you're there too.

Why waste your time with so much hate? Anyways, if someone basically mocks you in your understanding of an engine stating that something doesn't exist when it has for 20 years they were wrong.

Do you get many Smart cars over there in the US? They're quite popular here.

And how about diesel engines? Many of those?

Yea we do. I have never heard a positive comment about them though. Everyone jokes that it's not very smart (safe) and there expensive for the size. People here DO think they need Huge trucks to commute.

Diesels are not very popular. I believe the only options are vw with their jetta tdi (which I own) passat tdi BMW tdi or f-250s dodge 2500 Chevy 2500s Mercedes might offer a diesel here? I don't know. I know MANY MANY MANY people would kill for a small sized diesel. Think Tacoma

Las time I looked smart cars were relatively expensive and the mileage was unimpressive. We probably have a us version with a bigger engine.

I have the smallest car that will carry an upright. And yes this is a university town. Note what I said in an above post about the US being weak in math and science education.

I like that.. "university towns"

I think it comes down to gas has always been relatively cheap here. So basically it started with a why not have the bigger vehicle "Incase" and I believe since gas prices have risen the people are so used to having the bigger vehicles, it's all we have ever known, almost part of the American life. THINGS ARE changing just slowly that's all.

I don't really blame people its kind of all we have ever known. Your not going to wake up over night to everybody driving two seaters but eventually we may get there once people wake up and realize they cannot continue their lifestyle and expect that with a higher demand and dwindling supply that prices will one say drop.

A lot of people I know have the mentality that we're just at a high point in gas prices and it'll drop back down, so they think of it as more of a short term problem.
